In all actuality the problem is not the MAC keeping up with BCS coaching salaries, but it is really the MAC keeping up with the other non-BCS conferences. It is one thing to have a BCS school outbid you and hire a coach away, but it would be nice to be able to protect yourself against the other non-BCS programs.

I also do not know if Patterson's 953,162 is just salary or if it is total compensation. Since his contract is not public, it is hard to know.

Cubit went into Virginia w/back ups 2 years in a row w/a near miss and a win.

Al Groh makes 1.8 million.

Bowden who had officials ( phantom holding call called back a td w/35 seconds in the game) steal a win @ FSU last year makes 1.7 million.

@ the Int'l Bowl where a missed fg cost a win last year Cincy coach makes close to $ 900,000.00.

Cubit had better records than all the above and took over a program that was 1-10 w/no D1 wins.

Cubit makes about the state sales tax of the above.

The student newspaper at Northern Illinois reports Joe Novak's annual salary as $280,500.

Got Joe's # from MAC Report Online.

Al Golden's salary was reported to be 575,000 when he was hired.

Probably the $300,000 is the base before perks and incentives.

Appreciate all the links everyone has posted, if the other nonBCS conference salaries keep rising in proportion to MAC programs not only will MAC teams lose their coaches to CUSA,WAC & MWC teams but the O & D coordinators for these teams at some point will earn comparable or more $ than MAC head coaches. Iowa's O & D Coordinators(Norm Parker -D) make only slightly less than Joe Novak.
