The Huskies open up a 3 game series with Miami OH today. The Redhawks are one of the best teams in the MAC year in and year out. They probably have the best pitcher in the conference too and he is ptching today. 3pm start time I hope to see many of you there!

Also.. NIU added a home game against St. Xavier on Tuesday. I'm guessing they couldn't agree on a date to re-schedule the Valpo game so they just grabbed anyone they could.

That or the game we had cancelled with Northern Iowa. Good to see we are at least making up one of them. Should be a very good game today. Two of the better pitchers in the conference are John Ely of Miami, who is pitching today, and Jeff Fisher of EMU. Get us a winner Trav.
Good luck against Miami (OH), they are a solid team.
This is some phenominal pitching. Only six hits total betweem the two in nearly four innings of play.
Feeney is getting just killed in the 6th. Well, i really didn't think that we would beat Ely.

I thought we should have taken him out after he gave up 3 runs. Oh well, we need more offense though, so can't blame him too much.

NIU down 5-1
Why is Feeney still out there? He is just getting pounded. He should have been taken out after the 3rd run in the 6th. Now it is 7-1 and this game is long over.
Just got back to the game.. Not only did Miami OH fans outnumber NIU fans 3 to 1 but we got our asses kicked. Pretty embarassing day for NIU baseball.

Arguably the best team at NIU (yes, better than women's volleyball and football) and they get outdrawn big time by the opposing team. It was a beautiful day too. Dave, I know you don't live in Dekalb so I'm not faulting you (or anyone in particular for that matter).. but NIU students need to get out more.

If i could attend them i would. It's sad that Miami fans go to an away baseball game but not their own football homecoming games. Although i bet it was mostly parents and girlfriends of Miami players. Their baseball team has nine Illinois players.

It sounded like once they got on Feeney, he just got pounded. How did Ely look? I know he had quite a few strikeouts. Sorry to hear about the crowd, however, I did note that Miami has 9 kids from Illinois on their roster. This was probably an excellent chance for their families to see them play without the long travel.

Ely was as advertised. Hard fastball, good breaking ball, and good change. He did an excellent job keeping hitters off balance.. you could tell he had the NIU hitters guessing up there. Good command... I don't think he walked anyone, but every now and then a pitch would get a way from him.. he threw a few wild pitches and beaned 2 or 3 guys.. It always seemed to happen with 2 strikes. my guess is he was over-throwing - trying to make a perfect pitch and it just got away from him.

Most impressive college pitcher I've seen in person in quite some time. What year is he? I'd say he's got pro potential.

Today's game sucked but the positive is no matter what, the guys Miami OH throw at NIU the rest of the weekend won't be better than the guy who threw today.

He is a junior, so he is draft eligible this year. I believe he was drafted out of high school, but I am not sure about that.
