IOWA CITY, IA - - Dairese Gary, who signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Iowa on a men's basketball scholarship, has asked for, and been granted, a release from that commitment.

The announcement was made Tuesday by Iowa Coach Todd Lickliter and Director of Athletics Gary Barta.

Gary (6-1, 205) attends Concord HS in Elkhart, IN. He averaged 22.3 points as a junior.

"This is a request that is not uncommon when you have a change with your head coach and staff," said Barta. "Dairese expressed his interest in looking at different options and we will honor that request. We wish Dairese all the best as he moves forward with his educational and athletic career."

"We are confident that Jake Kelly and Jarryd Cole will be honoring their commitments to the University of Iowa," said Lickliter, speaking of the two additional prep seniors who signed with Iowa in November. "Our conversations with Jake and Jarryd have been very positive in looking towards their futures as part of the Iowa basketball program."

Iowa had just two seniors on its 2006-07 roster in guards Adam Haluska and Mike Henderson.
