MSU is playing in the Thanksgiving tournament that we played in last year, along with Gonzaga, Maryland, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Siena, Tennessee and Wichita State.

Note that this is for 2008, not this year.

Here are the '07 teams: Villanova, NC State, Kansas State, Penn State, George Mason, South Carolina, Rider, Central Florida
I keep crossing my fingers we're in the Coaches v. Cancer tourney, but it sounds like thats what we got railroaded out of. I know we're not going to Maui. I'll cross my fingers we end up in one of the two Las Vegas tournaments or the tourney in South Padre.
I would really like someone to name names as to who is threatening to back out of which tournies for fear of the Broncos. It pisses me off :outraged: that these teams/schools say they are so much better than us yet refuse to play us for fear of loseing. If you are so much better than us 04-bs or any MAC or similar team than why don't you prove it. I really wanna 05-mafia
The sad fact is that it's all about having the best record for March Madness and the tourney committee. I think it's ludicrous for that to govern scheduling decisions early in the year. That's just B.S.
If we get into a Las Vegas tourney, I'm there.

Vegas, Baby + Bronco Sports = Awesome weekend.

I would've went to the Old Spice Classic in Orlando this past November, but it was immediately after my FSU trip and I didn't want to make it one big mega-trip down there. But it was tempting.

I still don't get why these other schools are running for cover once they hear our name. I guess it's flattering, in a way. But we haven't lit the world on fire these past two years, except for the Va Tech win. Our record, both in and out of conferece, has been incredibly average.

Is there any way we can get a newspaper or someone like ESPN to check this out and if there are teams who avoid us because we are "too good" report it to the public?

An exposure might shake up the avoiders.

This should not suprise us. The two "big time" schools in our own state will not play us. We can't get a "name" team to come here and play us unless we sell our souls to them. SDSU was our BIG home game this year 03-melodramatic Right now it looks like next year it will be Northwestern. If the davidson return game is this year they will be the best team we play at home or away. Davidson is going to be a top 25 team this year. They were damn good last year and don't lose a single player that is any good. Too bad that most people will not realize how good davidson is when they see them on the schedule.

We might just need to roll the dice and sell out our soul on another 12th ranked OOC schedule and take a chance at winning more of them in case we need the resume to get an at large bid. I would rather do that than sit home with 26 wins looking like idiots like Akron did. Then their BS excuse about losing in that tourny so the missed out on TT or someone else. They still would have had a chitty schedule. I would rather win 19 games with a schedule like last year and take our chances in the tourny or make it to the NIT. If we played BG's OOC schedule we would have won 22 games this past year. But we still would have been sitting home in March.

I don't envy hawk dealing with all this BS 07-coffee3
Welsh-Ryan Arena (Northwestern) has a capacity of 8,117. Big Ten teams only go there because most years they HAVE to.

Ever since Diether cut our home venue seating in half, there's NO chance a Big Ten (or similar) school will come to Kalamazoo, especially if we're anywhere near competitive.

I fondly remember watching the Broncs play Michigan, ND, State, Marquette, DePaul, and other "big names" at Read when it held almost 10,000. Now - not so much.

That wasn't Diether's call, it was that campus planner whore (who is an award winner fwiw) that the athletic dept. has now banned from being involved in athletic facilities decisions because of how she ruined our arena.
Just curious but what exactly was the thinking or story behind the way it was redone??
Hate to disagree with moe because he is knowledgeable and passionate, but I know for a fact that work on UA was delayed and design changed at least once by Haenicke personally.

Not sure who planner "whore" he is referring to is.

I do not remember all the details about why it was "redone" the way it was, unfortunately. My Halftimer's is acting up in my OA.
^ Yes, Dieter was involved, but he's not the reason for the layout change or the reduction in seating.

As for the campus planner (I forget her name off hand), but she is an award winning campus planner and has worked for WMU for several decades now. She was the one who decided to reduce seating and change the layout. Athletics was pissed about what happened and she is now no longer allowed to be involved in the planning of athletic facilities. She dasically took everything athletics wanted to see happen in the renovation and threw it in the trash and did whatever she wanted to do with no input from the people who actually use the facility.
Well, the change/delay set back the reopening several months (which of course didn't help basketball or volleyball programs), and cost tens of thousands dollars more. If the taxpayers only knew...
I mentioned it someplace else, but the schools that threatened to back out of the tournament if WMU played where probably one of these eight schools:

Maryland, Michigan St, Missouri, UCLA, Kentucky, Memphis, Oklahoma, & Connecticut

Those 8 teams are in the CBE Classic and 2k Classic 16 team tournaments where the first 2 rounds are at the 8 colleges mentioned above. Can't lose at home to an "inferior" opponent now can we? 01-wingedeagle
Why do I get the feeling it is MSU? 05-stirthepot
IMO, Ron Mason is a nappy-headed ho.
