Found this link that lists many of his historical and archealogical backed published books on the single most individual and events of human history.

WooHoo! Dirty Ernie is amongst us! Par-tay!!
Holy cow! I didn't realize he had written so many books! My early western civ class with him was probably my favorite class at WMU. He seemed to know more about the subject he was teaching than any other professor I had. It also helped that history was always my favorite subject.
One of my favorite profs, as well.
A clear indication the facts he presents are on solid ground and not fabricated. They can be crossed referenced, disected, disassembled and reassembled.

I have heard him kindly and gently deconstruct myths and outright lies using the facts available to anyone but seldom known by most laymen, as the perpetrators assume, rightly in most cases, that the viewing, reading or listening audience have no clue or only desire to be entertained.

What makes him so popular and entertaining himself is his quick and dry wit, directness and ability to communicate so common folk like me understand.

Yet when debating other historian types he can quickly and without fanfare surgically remove their "thesis" by cutting to the chase, presenting the historical facts and handing them their ego on a silver platter.
On top of all that he is also currently serving as the second vice president of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

You should have read his credentials. He was a Lutheran clergy before he took an interest in history. In the '60's he was the WMU Lutheran chaplin as well as being in the history dept. I believe his father was also a VIP in Lutheran circles.

When I had classes from him, I learned he got his BA from Harvard. If he is representative of Harvard grads (which I doubt that he is typical) then I am truely impressed by by a Harvard education.
I had class with him as a freshman... That was the wrong time to have Western Civ with him. I remember nothing. I wish I could go back and take a class or two with him now.

I have seen him several times on TV being interviewed usually about the whole Dan Brown thing. He comes off as a little crazy on TV 01-wingedeagle It might be the Kramerish hair going all over. 8-O

Actually he pulled double duty like that up until 4 or 5 years ago (not just in the 60s). He was the campus paster for some 4 decades while also being a history prof.
