Can't find a link yet, but Scooter McDougle was involved in some point shaving with bookies from Michigan....
Here are the UT results from this year:

vs BOWLING GREEN -6.5 W 31-21
vs BALL ST -4 L 17-20
at N ILLINOIS +13.5 W 17-13
vs AKRON +3 W 35-20
at E MICHIGAN -2.5 L 13-17
at KENT ST +6.5 L 14-40
vs C MICHIGAN -2 L 20-42
at PITTSBURGH +16.5 L 3-45
vs MCNEESE ST NL W 41-7
vs KANSAS -5 W 37-31
at W MICHIGAN -10.5 L 10-31
at IOWA ST +9.5 L 43-45

5-6 against the spread
Wow.

I'm sure some of my feathered friends will jump on here to pile on about how this once again demonstrates our moral superiority to the University (sic) of Toledo, a renegade program, blah blah blah.

That isn't my point here (although, it must be said: I didn't pick my handle idly).

My point is to express some surprise that this doesn't happen more often at MAC programs -- and by that I mean any of our programs.

Vegas always publishes lines for our games, our programs are so far away from the national spotlight much of the time, and there are so many games to chose from.

It's been a standing opportunity for a bookie who wants to game the system.

I'll guess this isn't the first time this has happened in our league -- or the Sun Belt, or the WAC, etc. -- and that what makes this unusual is that it was actually discovered.

As a commenter put it in that Free Press article. "wait... people bet on Toledo athletics?"

Sure -- and all the better if you know a few of the players.
To get Toledo fans' reactions, see here:

Honestly, you can do pretty well if you bet on MAC sports. They pay very little attention to us out in vegas and fans like us know wayyyy more about the MAC then they ever will.

I agree.
I also agree -- I've done very well on MAC games

EMU's only win during the '06 FB season came against UT by what 4 points?

Did we win or did UT try to lose??? 03-hissyfit

P.S. the scheme apparently went on from '03 through '06. 05-nono

That is incredible!!!
Will review the game tape of UT @ EMU Oct., 21 (?) 2006 which UT lost.

That game might have been televised either on FSN or Comcast-local.

I wouldn't want to be a UT WR who dropped a few balls that day. 05-stirthepot

They couldn't catch footballs all year, hell they couldn't catch a cold.

And putting an asterisk next to the box score isn't comforting from an Eagles perspective.
We'll, OSU didn't lose any scholarships for Clarrett's antics if I remember correctly so Toledo might be alright in that regard.

This wasn't a booster giving money.

But sounds like it could run through more than one program.

Could prove a very damaging act for the whole athletic department.

A player receiving money from a booster is nothing compared to a player throwing plays to fit in with betting lines.

Not even close.
This is HUGE problem. My compassion to the Loyal Rocket Nation.
This is terrible...for the school and the conference. If it's true that multiple players form the football and basketball team were recieving inducements from gamblers...even absent a quid pro quo...it's going to be very bad for both programs.

Heads could roll...
