I saw this in the e-mail from athletics with the schedule. What is this? Did I miss something?

Quote:After opening the 2007 campaign at Chicago*s historic Soldier Field
versus Iowa on Sept. 1 in the first Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly
Division I-A) game to be played at the stadium since its 2003
renovation, Northern Illinois will play five games at Huskie Stadium in
DeKalb. Meanwhile, NIU will travel as far away as Moscow, Idaho,
Philadelphia, Pa. and Annapolis, Md. as part of its six-game 2007 road
schedule.
Yeah, i dunno, the NCAA changed the title of the sub-divisions. Saying "1-A" is a lot easier than that giberish they got now.
The are differentiating between D1 Bowl (1A), and D1 Playoff (1AA). It is all a part of the master plan IMO to move the non BCS conferences to the (Playoff) subgroup and keep all the money in the BCS conferences.
DI-AA schools have a self esteem problem, this new title makes them feel better.

The NCAA reclassified to this Bowl Subdivision and Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) last year.

The change was made prior to last year, so, yes, you missed something.
Is change always progress?
Have we all lost the courage and will to call what something is by its descriptive name anymore including in the workplace or must we daily do a tap dance to avoid bruising someone's ego?

Dumb, so very dumb. I'm still using 1-A and 1-AA.
Ahhhhh .......................does it matter to be assigned or unassigned to a region as a midmajor program compared to elite programs?

Is one a better position to be in than the other?

Why are schools like Boise, UC Berkeley and only a handful of others assigned?
