Today I went to the Washington State selection show shindig.
Afterwards I stuck around to grab a few autographs for my little niece.
I made sure to grab a word with the Cougars head coach Tony Bennett. I told him I was an NIU alum and he perked up. He asked when I was there (93-99). Asked if Molarni was there when I was and I told him no it was Hammell. He said "That's right...he's a good guy and Mo is a good coach".
He said "That Donald Whiteside was a GREAT ball player" and so was the shooter...Lipnisky (oh crap, now that I think about it it could have been Lipisnski...diffferent guys both good shooters). He recalled DeKalb and playing there against those guys.
I told him how hs dad would always come in and kill NIU. He laughed.
I just thought it was very cool how he remembered certain players and the NIU coaches. Gotta love the midwest roots.
