OK, I can see Joplin getting it, as they had the conference's best record, and Dambrot being second. That is pretty much how those things go. But why did anyone vote for Coles rather than Christian??? Totally illogical. Just goes to show how essentially meaningless individual awards are. From PD -

The Mid-American Coach of the Year in men's basketball is Toledo's Stan Joplin, who led the Rockets (18-11, 14-2) to the overall MAC title. Joplin earned the MAC News Media Association award ahead of Akron's Keith Dambrot, coach of the East Division champions.

Of the 50 media votes cast, Joplin was the pick on 25. Dambrot got eight, with Central Michigan's Ernie Ziegler, Kent's Jim Christian and Miami's Charlie Coles also receiving votes.
