If Judson is gone, would someone like Joey Meyer be a good fit. He has strong Chicago Ties. He is a little older so if he gets the program rolling(like Novak), bigger schools might not be as interested in hiring him away. He might be the type that would stay around a long time and could build a solid program.
I have a gut feeling that NIU will not want to eat the last year of Rob's contract. If we go on the premise that somehow a change could come sooner I agree that an older coach with a local connection would be ideal. Jim Phillips with his Notre Dame affiliation should be able to fill the void. My choice would be a Digger Phelps type. I would like to see a major ex coach with midwest ties and something to prove step up. Joey Meyer also fits this profile.
If I were recruiting a coach for NIU Men's Basketball, I would try recruiting a young coach which learned their trade from Bruce Weber, Matt Painter, or Chris Lowery in the SIU Coaching Factory.

We have a system that works. Our coaches recruit the athletic players whom the BCS schools overlook and stress defense.

I like that idea too. The problem is, you improve then other programs, come a calling on your coach. NIU is at a lower level than SIU and ISU. Should they be, probably no. I would love to see NIU as a perenial powerhouse in the MAC which would put it on par with SIU. Jim Molinari used it as a stepping stone to Bradley. It is tough to continually start over with a new coach and philosophy. I mentioned Joey Meyer because he could bring stability to our program like Joe.

That is a problem, the BCS schools come after our coaches with deep pockebooks.

However, with our system, you promote from within, which helps to maintain continuity in the program.
What about a former NBA & U of I coach, Lon Krueger? He may not have the Chicago connections of Phelps or Meyer but an exNBA head coach would have alot more sizzle than Meyer or Phelps.

I don't think so, given that he is the Head Coach at UNLV. Why would he leave UNLV and move to DeKalb. Seems unlikely to me.
A thread like this when Judson is employed as the head coach of NIU is completely inappropriate IMO.

Then don't post anything here. Your opinion means nothing to me. Get lost and have a good life somewhere else.

Yep.. and that's EXACTLY why we're a bottom feeder in one of the worst conferences in college basketball.

We are 6-19. I hardly think people who post on this board are any part of the problems with our basketball program. People are under no obligation to go to our basketball games. It is the responsibility of the athletic department to present a product that people enjoy watching. This is NOT it.

This program is a complete mess and that fact is reflected in the attendance figures. We need to blow up the whole program and that starts with the Head Coach. I wish I felt differently because I strongly supported the hiring of Rob Judson 6 years ago and thought that he was a great hire. Unfortunately, I was wrong and it is time for him to go.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the people who post on this board respectfully speculating about the future direction of the basketball program.

:bustacap:
This is the third or fourth time I will mention his name. Tracy Dildy. Played in the CPL is a great recruiter of CPL and Chicago area kids and is currently an assistant at Auburn.

Don't know if he would be interested and it would definitely be a steppingstone position for him.

MD, assume that Judson leaves for a BCS program. Whom do you believe would be available that could fill this gaping hole and definite loss to NIU athletics?

Hmmm...lemme think about this one.

Okay I'm done.

"NO" to Joey Meyer.
Jeff Strohm should be the next coach of NIU men's basketball. Plain and simple.

He was on the staff when NIU last went to the NCAA tournament. He recruited to NIU one of the best players this school has ever had.

He since has gone on and been on the staff of two Final Four teams

6-19 is pretty inappropriate also.
