When you say a recruiting class is average, what do you compare it to?

Average compared to other MAC classes that year? If so, wouldn't their have to be some poor classes to balance out the excellent classes?
I don't do any sort of bell shaped curve Jack which would give anyone a poor grade. Every school starts out as average compared to other conference schools that year. I can never say a recruiting class is poor and never do. These young men have earned a Division IA scholarship, something I never had a sniff at.

When you consider over one million kids play high school football throughout the country each year and only about 3,000 receive a D-IA scholarship, obviously that says something about that young man's athletic ability. As a MAC fan, we are privileged that this year
Quote:All of the MAC classes signed some solid talent across the board and I so not that. As I say every year in my intro section of my recruiting analysis, the only way to proper access a recruiting class is to look back in four or five years and see their record.

Nick, have you ever done this? Just curious as to how your rankings compared to on the field results 3-4 years after the recruiting class was signed. It would be interesting to see the correlation of the recruiting rank to the MAC finish.
Vandelay Wrote:To avoid some of the animosity I've been taking this year - I think next year I will announce the #1 team in my recruiting rankings and leave all others listed the same.

All the animosity is coming from Bowling Green fans who aren't willing to accept their recruiting class as anything less than #1 in the MAC.

Bowling Green Football on the rise?
2003 11-3
2004 9-3
2005 6-5
2006 4-8

lmfao

No one is saying our class was #1 in the MAC and in all honesty it was far from it. The problem is that Vandetool admits that he does not know the class but he still insists on rating it. He also used faulty logic in thinking that The State Of Ohio had a senior class comparable to past classes when in fact it was substantially below previous years according to "credible" sources.
BG had a nice class and I so stated that - as for Ohio prep recruits this year, they were quite good as always. Nearly 200 players signed IA or I-AA scholarships. That's pretty deep talent for one state.
We all appreciate your website and opinion and coverage of MAC sports.

Question for you though:

In your preliminary assessment of EMU's class you seemed to be very positive yet it seems to me as well as a few EMU fans that your assessment of the class cooled. Is there a reason for this?

There seems to a wide range of opinions about the quality of Michigan kids this year. Many thought this year's class was excellent and EMU pulled its fair share of recruits but that didn't seem to matter in the rankings.

Michigan Elite, Michigan Preps all had very positive things to say about this class. Maybe its because they have a slated viewpoint of Michigan football.

You actually were more positive about last year's EMU class despite the fact that Rivals had the class last year ranked at 104th and this year's class at 85th.

Maybe there's an EMU discount factor here? Considering recruit retention with Woody and Genyk that would be understandable.

Thanks and keep up the good work.
I still have high thoughts on EMU's class. They signed a lot of quality players throughout Michigan and Ohio. This class will further help Genyk and his staff to move EMU up the latter. As I received more info of other schools through late January and early Feb, their overall ranking dropped a little bit but it was still a solid class.

I am convinced that no one reads my overall introduction where I say "One thing that has become apparent to me over the years is that there is no longer a very big difference between the top classes and the bottom. Every team did well at addressing immediate needs and building overall depth.
Thanks for answering my question.
