The building plan features a town square on the main ground level, accessible by main entrances on East Union and College streets. A coffee shop and newsstand will help the building to maintain its historical role as a gathering place. In addition, the main floor will house galleries for professional and student work and a 250-seat multipurpose auditorium and performance stage. Most of the classrooms and laboratories will be located on the lowest and highest levels of the building, with faculty and staff offices on the second and third floors.

"The key is the town center and the fact that the students and faculty will be able to flow together," said David Mould, chair of the faculty and staff committee that worked with the architectural firm to help develop the plan.

I am assuming that will be built right next to the airport. lmfao
Everything BUT improved academics...

Maybe additional shopping will bring back the students.
This isn't going to be a completely new building. It's just a renovation of the old Baker Center.

...and I don't think theres going to be much shopping here.
The old Baker is going to be used by the communications school.

yeah... and thats where this "Town Center" is going to be.
Sounds like OU is trying to copy what Ball State has with its Art and Journalism Building in the center of campus. In addition to classrooms, lecture halls, and labs, the building contains a Barnes & Noble bookstore, an atrium with a large food court, an arrt gallery, and a Starbucks coffee shop. It has become the social gathering place for the university community.

i thought we had this already with the new Baker University Center that just opened recently. is this town center something new besides the new Baker University Center? i'm confused.

My house cost that much. ;-)
I know this is grossly over-simplifying things, but seems like some of that money could have been better spent keeping the mens' track and field program alive. If they need to have a womens' sport to equal it out because of Title IX, keep women's lacrosse, too. I think this step by OU does more to bode badly for the MAC than anyone realizes.
