Last week we cut some sports and now here is the solution to the cash crunch in Athens:
2007 at Va Tech
2008 at Ohio State
2009 at Tennessee

These are the money games Bobcats have lined up to pay the bills.
but why is Ohio in dire (if that is the correct word) straights financially?

I'd guess that Ohio's athletic revenues are much better then most MAC shools.

MAC sports are not and will be self-supporting. 03-idea
You'd be wrong. We don't pull in a lot of money.

Nothing wrong with that schedule. The Bobcats are "expected" to lose those games and they get a huge paycheck. Pull an upset and it will do wonders for the program and conference. Good job!
If those three games were in the SAME SEASON, then there'd be a problem. :) Spread over three years? Same as every other MAC team.

Or you could have EMU's road schedule for 2007: U of M, Vandy and Pitt.

Guess beats taking in pop bottles.

Would've been nice to have a return trip from these schools
I'd rather have the money.

Dropped enrollment? Not at the flagship institution, that's unthinkable.
Honestly, we could do with fewer students, faculty, and administrators. Cut the fat.

How about a 100% cut?
;-)

Sounds like a campaign for Zero State.
We (NIU) play Tennessee at Neyland Stadium this coming season. It's the 4th game on our schedule to be played on September 22, 2007.

That's a lot of games for one day.

Yeah, but think of the payout.

Yep, Kent State couldn't handle it.

Its all about how you are reading into the article......

You could read it as OU is reeling financially and struggling with enrollment at face value....

If you look however at the fact OU's enrollment has increased 15% over the last 10 years while dumping 100's of milliions into new academic buildings you are painting a totally different picture as to the relative health of the university.

The budget cuts OU is facing are a direct result of declining state subsidy.......oh and guess what....Bowling Green is facing it too.
OZoner Wrote:Honestly, we could do with fewer students, faculty, and administrators. Cut the fat.

I can agree with this.......

OU netted 300 million in donations during the last fundraising campaign........what colleges resulted in the lion share of donations..........engineering, buisness, communications, medical....

I've always thought OU would be better off branding itself as a smaller professional oriented undergraduate university. Cap enrollment around 12,000 students to make it more private school like.

Let OSU have the PHD programs in women's studies........

I'm also not sure what purpose is served by having five satelite campuses. As an outside observer, they amount to little more than a community college with Ohio University stamped on an associates degree. I think community colleges are great and many people get quality educations and training for good jobs, but is that what OU wants as a part of its mission?
