according to rivals we have the 100th best recruiting class in the nation with 72. Akron, 74. Miami-OH, 75. Toledo, 77. Ball State, 84. CMU, 86. Temple, 90. Kent State, 92. Ohio, and even 94. Troy ahead of us. I know these rankings don;t really mean much, but it's kind of surprising since we are usually at the top of the MAC in recruiting every year
I'm surprised as well. Ball State's class had a bunch of unranked players on Rivals. The rest of the MAC really stepped up their recruiting this year. Like i said earlier, according to the ranking sites this is NIU's worst class since 2004.
man that is horrible

I am not much of a fan of the star system, but if you use it as a criteria, we are not going to place very high in the MAC when we have no *** recruits. Nearly every other MAC program has at least a couple.

I believe in our coaches to select the right kids and to coach them up, but on paper, I think this is our weakest class in a few years.

That does NOT mean that they won't end up being very good players for us however.

Look at some of the kids we have had who were never highly recruited...example #1 Garrett Wolfe.
this is a dumb question: but does it seem like we are over recruiting the QB position?
Wouldn't expect anything better with the facilities that we have. And how horrible we looked on National TV. Can't wait until next year with our AAPC built.

Really? I was under the impression that last year's class sucked big time (at least by the rankings and "experts"). This class does NOTHING to excite me one bit.

I think we are really getting dangerously close to just being very average for the forseeable future. Unless there is great coaching and hidden gems in these classes, I don't like where we're heading.

We need to have Coach announce his plans beyond 2007 so the program can prepare for that and SELL SELL SELL the new Yordon Center and the University to recruits.
I'm not a big fan of the star system either, but damn. 9th in the MAC? With Temple ahead of NIU??? Not really liking that...

I think your comment about Joe's future is very valid and may be having a significant impact. I agree, the program needs a decision and soon. My hope is that Joe will stay for another 4-5 years, but if not, we need to eliminate all the uncertainty and move on.

It's a good question. Maybe Joe and his coaches are looking at some of the QBs for other positions, like Britt Davis. Or, could it be that we will have a new and improved offensive system that will feature a pass-happy, mobile QB?? Nah, I was just dreaming!

On a positive note we will have depth at the QB position. 02-13-banana
What these kids can do for us is meaningless. Our only concern should be to ensure that these new student athletes be afforded a world-class experience - athletically, academically, and socially.

You're talking like these guys are playing intramurals

This is big time Division 1 football. So much $$$ is involved you can't justify what you just said.
no of us has seen one of these kids play. You have to forget the rankings. These are guys our coaches wanted. Once again do you want Rivals to pick our players or coaches. Look at our next yrs sr class, highly rated but turned out to fall apart. You just don't know. I think we have 3 solid classes in a row. Now I would be skeptical of WMUs class 15 out of 22 from Fl and GA and 1 from Mich. When you get out of your backyard I would worry. I am sure they look to be good players but will they stay

I'm just pretending that I'm Jim Phillips at the press conference.

He seems to be doing fine although he said it is very cold. I spoke with Coach Novak yesterday and he told me that Billy was doing good and seemed to be adjusting good. I haven't heard anything negitive out of Billy about NIU except the weather. On another note I wouldn't let this recruiting class get me down. I don't think the star system is worth the paper its writtin on. I have faith that these Coaches no how to find the diamonds in the rough.

Congrats on becoming the most negative member of the board, DogFan. Cue "negative member" joke.
