...by the lack of players from Michigan in this years recruiting class? One kid from the entire state. We are going to need to recruit local talent to be successful long term. When Cubit and his South Florida ties move on to greener pastures WMU is still going to need connections to recruit fooball players.
I'm not concerned. If Cubit and Company bring a relationship advantage to certain S.Fla and GA districts, might as well capitalize on it. Based on what Cubit looks for in kids (character, talent, passion for the sport), I don't care where they are from. If/when Cubit leaves, we'll utilize whichever relationships the next coaching staff brings. It's nice to have more local talent, but I don't think we necessarily "need" them.

And if we continue to have winning seasons and especially land another bowl or two, creating MI ties and getting into Michigan HS kids' living rooms should be easier based on the success.
The only people concerned are arrohead and Mick McCabe
Not concerned at all. We'll take the talent Cubit wants, those that "fit" in with our needs and our system, rather than settling for those that don't really fit.

Watch the offense take off next season..... 04-rock
It isn't a big deal now but would you want to see this become the norm?
Cubit addressed this question at the press conference today.

Not really a problem, as I see it. As the program grows in stature, it will be easier to get into the homes of those top level MI talent and have a real shot at landing the best in the state.
Look back at the last 5 or 6 years. We've had, at most, 5 from MI sign in a year. Not worried, don't care.
I think some local talent helps attract more people to the attend the game.

And the local recruits still need to have the talent to be on the field.

As with basketball, WMU needs to look at N Indiana area as "local." Detroit and Chicago are equal distant so they could both be considered "local".
I for one don't care where the kid is from. It never mattered to me when I played. Most of the kids from far away developed really deep bonds with the coaches and be even more committed because they can't go home every weekend.
Talent is Talent. I agree with Couch kids that grow up in michigan look at us as second class. Kids from georgia see players in the NFL, coaches that will play the talent and feed them the ball or set them up to make plays. Just look at the numbers greg, tony, ismal, bonds, west, etc... have put up. Cubit talked about that on the huge show. The coaches want play makers. What kid would not want a shot at that?
If there are Michigan recruits who are talented enough and fit our program, then I'm all for them being given an extra look. But taking Michigan kids just because they're Michigan kids? Naw.
