Battle of the bottom. UB vs NIU.

Final
UB 80
NIU 74

Rebounds UB 47-27 (25 offensive rebounds)

Idbihi 26 points. All 2's

Usually I dont start new topics but I just had to post what I just saw. Yassin Idbihi absolutely destroyed Hughes down low. We posted up Idbihi 7-8 straight possesions in the second half and Yassin scored on at least 5 of them up over and under and all over this Hughes character. Its was like nothing else Ive seen. Last time I seen this much dominance was when Yassin ripped Leon Rupaul Williams a new one at Buffalo last year. Maybe Hughes isnt as good as I was told but dammnn.
Hughes is not very strong and is exactly the wrong kind of guy to guard Idbihi. He's a bit soft underneath as well. He can jump and score, he's not a banger. You've got to body YI hard to shut him down and make him play away from the basket, which is what the good teams do. NIU just doesn't have anyone to do that.

Hughes had a hard time stopping Kent's Julian Sulliger (all 6'3" of him) a week ago. I was surprised.
I figured. People kept telling me Hughes was this force inside, a blocker and what not but he is kinda weak looking. You could have really posted him up every possession of the entire game and he woulda had 80 points.

Hughes sucks. NIU sucks. Iona won so we are getting ever closer to being the worst tean in Div 1. 03-weeping

Really? Because the last time I saw it was a couple weeks ago in The Convo when Yassin got owned by Leon and Jerome.
Hughes has always been the guy scouts and media are enamored with because he has the NBA body. But he would be playing with a power conference team if he had the skills to match.
Hughes is very weak for a big player in the MAC. He gets pushed around very easily. This is a question for Buffalo fans that were in attendance. Did you see Hughes dunk at all in the game? For a 6'11" guy he should be dunking all over the place. If i was 6'11" i would be plowing guys over and dunking like mad on them when inside the circle. Just to further show how he gets pushed around, he isn't even our leading rebounder.
Why does it seem so many big guys play so soft? The last true post player Toledo had was Casey Shaw. Hughes looked good going backdoor on the Rockets, but those were uncontested.

this is becoming a trend, Sullinger is more skilled than most big guys in the league, even though he is undersized

Gotta love Buffalo fans: Ignore the 5 times Leon has thoroughly dominated Idbihi, and focus on Idbihi's one good performance. Leon owns Idbihi.

Gotta love when one single fan from one program makes a post and then other board members attribute it to all "fans" of said program.

I have to plead guilty to the same syndrome- I tend to lump all "flagship" fans together. Yet, I've heard rumors that if you check the Ohio board, there are actually some reasonable ones. 05-stirthepot

FWIW- Idbihi did play a great game on Saturday. Sad part is that it broke a 5 game UB losing streak against a team with a 7 game losing streak.

FWIW2- UB started a walk-on freshman point guard, Byron Mulkey, and benched Eric Moore. Sophomore Moore had a great early season and is an outstanding shooter, but he has been eratic lately. He had a horrible game against Toledo where he could barely get the up court. Against NIU, Mulkey had 11 points and 4 assists in 28 minutes, but more importantly, NO TURNOVERS. UB had 80 points for the first time this season. It'll be interesting how UB competes against the better MAC teams with a less talented point guard, but one who seems to do a better job at distributing the ball and running the offense.

It's more than one fan. I've read the same thing posted by quite a few on UBfans.net (or whatever it is).
