Jan. 26, 2007
Quote:DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois fan, friends, students and supporters are invited to the NIU Convocation Center on Wednesday, Feb. 7 to take part in NIU's "Signing Day Celebration" as Huskie football coach Joe Novak, men's soccer coach Steve Simmons and women's soccer coach Marci Miller discuss their newly-inked 2007 recruits in Victor E. Court.

The free event, which begins at 5:30 p.m., will also mark the kick off of the Huskie Athletic Scholarship Fund's 2007 Spring Membership Drive, a three-month effort to increase support for Northern Illinois' 486 student-athletes in 17 sports programs. The HASF has switched to one universal renewal date for the first time in the history of the organization, and efforts are focused on building the membership this spring while increasing levels of annual fund donations. HASF funds directly impact NIU student-athletes and teams.

"Building the Huskie Athletic Scholarship Fund is fundamental to the success of Northern Illinois Athletics," said NIU Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Jim Phillips. "Through the support of the membership of the HASF, we are able to provide all of our student-athletes with a world-class experience. The Spring Membership Drive provides us with an opportunity to reach out to all of our current donors and supporters, as well as make a concerted effort to get more people involved in our athletic program. With the announcement of our new signees in football and soccer, it's a great time to remind everyone what an exciting time it is to be a Huskie!"

At the Signing Day Celebration, participants will have the chance to watch video of the Huskies' 2007 football signing class, receive copies of the official bios and hear directly from NIU Head Coach Joe Novak and members of his coaching staff. Simmons, whose 2006 Huskie soccer team won the Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament titles before advancing to the second round of the NCAA Championships, and Miller, whose team advanced to the finals of the MAC Championship in 2006, will be on hand to discuss their respective signing classes.

Concessions will be available for purchase and authentic Huskie items will be raffled off, including 2007 football sideline passes, game balls, jersies and much more. Season ticket information, as well as information on NIU's 2007 season-opening game versus Iowa at Soldier Field, will be available. In addition, register at the Signing Day event to receive a free ticket to the NIU vs. Bowling Green men's basketball game which tips off at 7 p.m. Wednesday night in the Convocation Center.

Sweet! I can't wait to attend. Looks like a lot of fun. Anyone else going? This will also give anyone who isn't currently a HASF member a chance to get more info and also give a donation.
Nice. I might actually be able to attend this!
Raising $$$ for Jud's buyout? 05-stirthepot
Unfortunately I have a prior committment that day, but does anyone know if Joe will be on the radio or on inside huskie sports introducing this class then? I'd like to hear his take.
Joe "No question, we think ___________ is going to be a darn good football player."

"We think this is the best class we've recruited since we've been here"

"We tried to recriut speed and atheleticism."

"He's a good player and a better person."

Pick a quote and attach one to each player and that will be Coach's take on all the players.
I think I might go to this...sounds interesting, but being a student I'll leave prolly once the HASF stuff starts to happen, i'm only interested in the sports.
REMEMBER, EVERY TEAM IN dIV 1A WILL HAVE THE BEST RECRUITING CLASS EVER

You don't have to donate now, but getting information on what its all about and what it does is still interesting. I would stick around for it even if i weren't graduating this semester. They might even announce the IPF for all we know.

I'm there dude.
I have a date that night. I'll be supporting the Huskie Marching band that night, or well at least one member.

I am most certain that it will provide you all with a world-class experience. 03-melodramatic
is this when we'll start the "Don't play Billy Lowe, start the incoming freshman QB who we've never seen play one college snap" campaign?

You have to wait for your designated assignment. Half of us will be given an incoming QB while the other half with be assigned Billy Lowe. That way, we can continue arguing over things we know very little about.
