Assistant HC- Sam Pittman: North Carolina
OC John Bond- Miami
RB Coach- Thomas Hammock: Minnesota

P.J. Fleck: WR Coach

Look for our current WR coach to be re-assigned somewhere else, possibly RB coach.
OUCH....that's a lot of asst. coaches to lose in just one year. Good luck
IMO as questionable as the playcalling was last year, having Bond leave is a plus!

Pittman demanded to be the HC next year (after Novak retires) or he was going. Luckily for NIU the let him go.

Possibly. His contract is up after next year.

But to say that Pittman DEMANDED to be head coach is laughable. NIU did not "let him go". He was hired by Butch Davis at North Carolina.

OK, so the job as a HC at NIU is not better than the OL coach @ UNC ? Amazing we have had OC/DC of BCS schools dying to get the HC jobs in the MAC but an OL job is @ UNC ranks higher.

Believe me the demand for assurances of being the HC, AFTER Novak left, was made I was a bit unsure of the timing of Novaks departure.

Joe's contract is up after next year and he has pretty much indicated that he and his wife plan to retire at that point. The AD has strongly stated that Joe can coach at NIU for as long as he desires to and has extended an open invitation to negotiate an extension.

In case you haven't noticed, Joe Novak is still the head football coach at Northern Illinois University. So the question should be asked whether the OL coach position at NIU is better than the OL coach position at North Carolina? The answer (at least financially) is no.

Are you stupid enough to think that because Pittman left he won't have a chance to come back as head coach when Joe retires?

What did you want to happen?? Should they have done the same thing the Bulls did years back with Tim Floyd and Phil Jackson? Apparently you wanted to hear this........"Sam Pittman will be the next head football coach at NIU when Joe Novak retires. However, Joe is welcome to stay as long as he wants"

Ya that would be smart. 01-wingedeagle

From what I understand the Bond deal isn't done as of now but they are getting close.
Pittman would be Joe's recommendation to succeed him when he retired. Sam did not demand it. I hear his salary at UNC as OL coach is $200,000. UNC is a pretty nice place and he would be stupid to wait around for something he does not know when may happen and if it did would he get the job

Despite what NIU fans believe, this doesn't stop him from being our next head coach. If anything, it's better for him and gives him some recuriting exposure in the east.

Btw, I have heard Cruz won't be back with the program next year. So, he's not a canidate for the RB coach.

Plus, it shouldn't be assumed that his leaving now doesn't mean he's no longer a candidate or available once the job does open.

Edit: oops, G beat me to it.

I beat you both to it earlier today. ;-)
