Q: Why doesn't Akron have ice in their water cooler on the sideline?
A: Because the guy with the recipe graduated

By the Way, did you hear about Romeo Travis getting in a horseriding accident? It was terrible! Only thing that helped him was that the K-Mart manager came out and unplugged it!

Any Others?
This is a lively thread!
Still going i see 01-france
How do you get an Akron alumni off of your porch?
Pay for the pizza.

A blind guy walks into a bar and asks the bartender if he wanted to hear and Akron joke. Just then a guy next to the blind man leans over and says "Hey fella.. Just so you know, the bartender is a Karate Black Belt and an Akron Alumnus, the bouncer at the door is a University of Akron student and I am a 300 pound pro weightlifter who graduated from Akron.. Now, do you really want to tell that joke?"
The blind man says: "na, I don't feel like explaining it 3 times."
Akron.

A joke in itself! 03-lmfao
Let me share some things about Akron:

1. They are 4th tier according to US News Rankings, same level as Cleveland State.
2. They are open enrollment, means you only need a pulse to get in, Kent is one of 6 schools in the state that have high standards for enrollment, (OU, MIAMI, UC, OSU , KENT, BGSU) 03-nutkick
3. Akron along with UC have the highest amount of debt, thanks to their "New Campus" thing. Now they have to do a $500 million campaign to pay it off.
4. Akron COPIES Kent in everything, when we hired Carol Cartwright, first lady president in Ohio, Akron hired one months later to be like us, too bad theirs sucked and resigned while our president lasted 13ish years. Kent opened a research park, 2 weeks later, Akron opened one.
5. Akron brags about $350 million upgrade to campus, well GUESS WHAT, KSU is always doing at least $400 million of upgrades to campus at any given time of the year. 04-chairshot
6. KSU campus > Akron's campus...plain and simple.

I'll have more as they come...

04-cheers
Akron's campus is 5 blocks away from the county prison.
At Kent, you don't have to play "Ignore the Homeless Guy" on your way to class.

Too bad accuracy isn't your forte. While UA is 4th tier, KSU is 3rd tier. Not much difference. Akron is 4th tier because it is open enrollment which effects its grad rate. While KSU has admission standards, they are a hair more than Akron's and are basically negligible. Basically, anyone can get into Kent as well. Enrollment standards at Kent can hardly be described as "high".

No university, including Akron has a campaign to pay off debt. Akron made well over its 500 million in its campaign and none of it is permitted to be used to pay off debt. The campaign has been in effect for 2 years and has more than surpassed its goal. It is not one that is yet to happen

And yes, I'm sure that Akron saw KSU open a research center and within two weeks and much jealous fervor it got all the planning and bulldozers in line to start theirs.

And your comparison between the hiring of Carol Cartwright and Peggy Elliot is as childish and off the wall as the rest of the drivel you post.

You are a classic Kent snob who denigrates those less fortunate. Why am I not surprised? The University of Akron has an urban campus and KSU has a rural one. Such is the nature of the two beasts. It doesn't make one superior over the other. My hope is that not all KSU people are as classists and racist as are you.

Come and visit The University of Akron and you will learn what it is like to be an accepting individual who has respect for diversity and an understanding of the differences in people.

Dude, I grew up in Tallmadge. I have been to the University of Akron plenty of times. My tires even got slashed when I was at a party near E. Exchange. So sorry if you need to label me racist to boost your ego, but my opinion is based on facts and numbers. I don't have time to pull it up, but if you looked at the crime rate (or even the cost of insuring a car) in UofA's precinct, I'm sure it will look a lot different than Kent. It also does not change the fact that when my teenage daughter visited Akron U, she told me that she simply does not feel safe walking down Buchtel after a night class. So maybe I am biased about the safety of Akron vs. Kent, or even Akron vs. NC State, but statistics and numbers tell the truth.

you are childish and a liar dude. your statements about KSU and UA regarding research centers, capital improvement budgets, debt and female presidents are all are not true. your opinions are jingoistic and extremely judgemental and bigoted and are certainly not based on any facts whatsoever, dude!

Who's the racist? Race was not mentioned. Do you assume homeless people are of a certain minority?

Huh? This is your defense? A link that addresses Super Bowl ads. Look, I guess you can woo me by using big words, but I was actually thinking the link would address such issues as crime rate, homelessness, and other issues related to your school's neighborhood. But you put up a link about Super Bowl ads that really do not influence of most of its audience, as most of the regional viewers already know that Akron and Kent both exists and what both offer. Since I only have a 1 hour lunch break, I can't provide you with crime facts. Sorry. But since Akron University (I'll just pick on E. Exchange, since my tires got slashed there) is a much more dangerous area than E. Main, in Kent. (Although I wouldn't suggest anyone stroll down either alone late at night.)
Then you follow up your weak argument with generalizations about me being a liar and a racist, although my previous post mentions nothing about a particular race. Here are some facts to hold up my argument, which I posted over 2 years ago, when this thread was last active. It is true that a homeless person can obtain a license to pan handle in certain precincts in Akron. This is regularly demonstrated along the access roads on Rt. 8. Also, the surrounding institutions within 5 blocks of the JUG being the Summit County Prison and several homeless and halfway houses, it does not take much to realize that what I posted –again, 2 years ago- is true.
Did anyone mention research projects? NO! Anywhere in this thread does it mention university presidents? Not until you addressed it. Capital Improvement Budgets; I have enough to worry about than argue with you about that on a thread based on a basketball game. Akron has the clear advantage on engineering, psychology and social work. (Oh, and soccer.) Kent State has advantages in education, medicine, fashion. And regardless of what you post next or what happens in a 3 hour game tonight, Kent State will have a basketball program that Akron only wishes it had.
I witnessed an Akron fan walk by with the double birds and actually spit on a couple of our students............thats class ladys and gents.
