I looked at today's Rivals.Com (updated in Dec., I believe).

I have their list of top 11 prospects here is where they are going:

(ranked 1 - 11)

undecided, LSU, Okla, FL. State, PSU, TN, Ga. Tech, MSU, Ga. Tech, UofM, WVU.

Like a few years ago, 8 would go to UofM or MSU and maybe 2 to other Big Ten schools and MAYBE ONE to ACC or SEC or some other BCS conference.

Are we seeing demographic shifts where kids in some "Big Ten" states are going to school?

Will Big Ten teams need to recruit players MAC teams used to recruit?

Since Dantonio went to MSU, they have been offering nearly every kid Toledo offers. It pisses me off because I think we were close to getting a couple of them to commit to us before MSU offered and then they committed to them.

I don't know about the rest of the Big Ten, but MSU is recruiting a lot of Ohio guys and they are recruiting a lot of MAC level recruits. I can't see how Dantonio is going to be successful at MSU.
I heard somewhere that Michigan is one of the Top 10 states this year for recruits. A bumper crop if you will, that seems to have brought out the top schools to pick up talent. This is a small version of what is seen in Georgia, Florida, Ohio and Penn every year.
Dantonio is doing what a lot of coaches do who get hired mid-recruiting. He is trying to salvage this year's class. Did he take any of his UC recruits. I haven't followed it closely.

Welcome to the club, same stuff happens in IL every year. 35 out of region D1A programs (non Big10 or MAC) have offered Illinois players this year!

Wyoming got verbals from 2 1st team LB's (John Olofsson & Mark Oliver 26 IL Rivals). New Mexico got another highly rated IL LB(Justin Hickman 27 IL Rivals). Hawaii got a verbal from the defensive MVP of the CHicago Catholic League(Kevin Konrath) and has offered 2 others. Louisville got RB Dale Martin (#25 Scout), BC got OB Arthur Ray (#36 Scout), VA got DE Matt Conrath, Chris Patterson 4* JC LB( Scout) is going OOstate (Big12, SEC or PAC10, possibly MN) ND got WLB Aaron Nagel (#14 Scout), CAL got S Sean Cattouse(#51 Scout), WR Jerrell McDaniel 24 Il Rivals) is headed to MO.

It's been a ballbuster. NIU better get the memo that out of region programs are going to continue to hit IL hard. For the Huskies to continue winning, recruiting outside their comfort zone is necessary.

Yeah, he's taken a few of the kids that were going to go to UC and he went after several kids he was recruiting while at UC. He's got quite a few commits from guys that basically just had offers from MAC schools.
The MAC coaches and Brian Kelly's job is to remind these guys they will never play at MSU. Dantonio will play next season with John L's leftovers. Then his reputation will get a few blue-chippers that MSU has never gotten before next winter and he will play a high number of true freshmen in '08.
