Uh oh...someone is recognizing a Tim O'Shea squad as arguably being the best in the MAC. Time for the haters to come out of the wood work again...
Bobcats deserve the top nod right now. Who could argue that?
I tend to agree with these rankings in the top half from what teams have shown so far. The trick would be to be able to know from that how things will play out once the MAC season begins this week.
It all starts this weekend.

Perhaps those who last week said Tim O'Shea didn't have what it takes to win a regular season title...

Well, he doesn't.

Still, you'd have to say the Bobcats had the best start. To say it was coaching that did it would be as much conjecture as to say it was talent.
Now the schedules even out and we see what happens. Can't wait, myself, as there are few matchups, particularly in the East, that aren't interesting.

The real shock is that it's not a OU blowhard...oops... fan.

Pot, meet kettle.

By the way, Andy Katz agrees re OU:

Quote:Doug (DC): Is Ohio now the team to beat in the MAC?

Andy Katz: (12:29 PM ET ) Yes. The Bobcats are playing the best basketball of any team in the MAC right now. Beating up on the bottom of the A-10 (Rhode Island) and Big East (Cincinnati) isn't bad for the MAC -- a one bid league yet again.

I think that's called "damning with faint praise."
But we've earned that position this year, and you'll get no argument from me that the Bobcats aren't the slightly bigger midget at the circus for the moment.

Is that throwing down the guantlet to try to get Oddball to return?
I was at the Ohio-Cincinnati game and those who say the O'Shea can't coach have not seen the progress of this team. The Bobcats were very disciplined on defense and rotated on defense stopping UC from getting good shots inside. On offense Ohio moved the ball much better. 5 starters averaging 13 points or more. The bench might be were Akron might have an edge on Ohio, but Bobcats have enough bit parts off the bench to rest the starters without imploading. Van Kempen has been good enough to let O'Shea sub Tillman and Williams without the sky from falling apart. Chatman was the starter at point at the end of last year and is a good sub with either Davis or Walther going to the bench. King can shoot and he fills in for walther without a drop in 3pt shooting. Bobcats are pretty much just 8 deep, but the bench has contributed enough to let O'Shea rest his starters a bit. Keeping Williams out of foul trouble is key, but Bobcats are better prepared this year with Van Kempen behind him.
