Your board operators (I would guess the MAC mods did not do this) have now deleted the "Marshall movie" thread that had been moved to the risibly titled "Smack Forum." It's their board, their right, and as those of you have known me for years will guess, I'm the last guy on earth who will cry about the First Amendment on a privately-run board.

That said, I find GTS's decision to cave into the pleas of the CUSA crowd seeking anodynes from the pains of reasoning to be exceptionally cowardly.

I realize the views I expressed last night are minority views, particularly amongst the Herdies and their fellow-travelers, but they are legitimate views and raised legitimate questions about the boundries between the respectful and the tawdry in dealing with tragedy. Your moderators obviously disagree.

We had this issue before when long-time posters were banned from the board in what I saw as blatant viewpoint discrimination. But, since that was over politics, I was offended only to a degree. Now, we have viewpoint discrimination regarding the very purpose of the board. There apparently are some opinions regarding topics in college athletics that your moderators will not permit you to express -- no matter how civil or respectfully made.

After nine years as a part of this community in one form or another, I expected better. And so should you.

I hope that each of you will consider carefully the environment in which we have been asked to participate.
DG,

Don't blame GTS for deleting that thread. I did it. When I first saw the thread and read the first couple of posts, my only thought was that it was a topic that really didn't interest me. As a result, I chose not to return to it. Then I got a PM asking me to move it to the Smack Board. That caused me to waste a good portion of my time reading the whole stupid thread, including your well-written reasons for the appearance of hostility toward Marshall fans (with which, btw, I happen to agree wholeheartedly, and said so). I thought that would be the end of it. But no. I went back to check on the thread yesterday and found a growing number of Herd fans reciting the same old tired nonsense we endured for ten years on numerous other boards, some of which went bust as a result.

I certainly did not intend to censor anyone, but I also did not intend to allow this to become just another round in the saga that WAS Marshall. There may be some, including you, who disagree with deleting the thread, but I long ago grew tired of reading the nonsense about attendance in the MAC, rinky dink conference, we saved you and the myriad revisions to reality that have gone around ad nauseum for the last 10 years. Maybe I'm must tired.
The sad part is the Herdiots are still spouting off on the CUSA message board about how bad the MAC sucked. Since they haven't done anything in CUSA, I guess they need something to talk about....
Quote:Since they haven't done anything in CUSA,

They didn't do anything here, either, once they were forced to play by the rules. The Herd were a very normal 14-12 during their final two seasons of MAC play, remember.

Once the NCAA told the Herd they wouldn't be able to cheat their asses off anymore, they came down to earth very quickly.

Exactly. That's why I can't understand the bravado that still comes from them.

The only legit point I saw them make was that the MAC officials still let them play for championships, and never stripped the wins they got. But, that was Ippolitti's decision, not ours. Certainly Oddball and I were in agreement that their titles should have been stripped. Then we could stop hearing how much they "won".
In that regard, the MAC did/does "suck".

Indeed. One of the biggest negative marks on the record of our commissioner's office was the refusal to strip those ill-gotten gains.

I understand the impulse but disagree with the result. We have effectively let the plane crash cultists misuse the memories of the dead to forestall even legitimate questioning of the ethics and behavior of the living. I coined the term "Herdiban" for a reason.

Take care,
DG
"Nothing matters and what if it did?"...

The herd thing is only going to get worse after this movie- who gives a sh!t?? I personally am enjoying their ride back to annonimty...

"We WERE Marshall" lmfao

I see your point, and I considered it before deleting, but felt the overpowering urge to ignore it. Seriously though, my only thought before hitting YES to Are You Sure You Want To Delete This Thread was "oh for cryin' out loud...here we go again, and they're not even in our conference anymore!" So YES it was.

And I really DO see your point...it's legitimate.
I am astounded at the residual hostility from both MAC'ers and Marshall. My intention in the original post was to stir up a little dust, not witness an implosion. And I thought the animosity toward Temple was harsh.
