Just got off the teleconference presser that was held and my favorite line was delivered by, not surprisingly, Joe Novak when commenting on the furstration of past NIU teams, most notably the 10-2 squad, sitting at home while other teams went bowling with lesser records:

"It really bothered me to watch a 6-7 team (after losing their bowl game) playing in a bowl game. These teams from the bigger conferences you know they play four cupcakes out of conference and then go 2-6 in their conference and go to a bowl game? Baloney! That's not being a bowl team!"

Also, the Poinsettia Bowl has already sold 37,000 tickets to the locals as part of a package deal with the Holiday Bowl.

That's part of the magic of having multiple bowls in one town. It is also why the extra BCS game will work. The folks who want tickets to see the BCS "Title Game" will have to buy tickets for the probable OU-Boise game.

The Sugar Bowl is supposedly considering taking over the New Orleans Bowl from the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation and if they do that ticket priority for the Sugar will likely be tied to ticket purchases for the New Orleans Bowl.

It also lets those bowls work out better sponsor deals instead of a banner and TV ads for one game on national TV, they do a bundled deal for two at less than the cost of cutting independent deals for each bowl. Also gives the bowl committee greater leverage with the hotels and such.

Way of the future.
