Excuse us if we have not come over and introduced ourselves. We still have a game against Air Force this week.

I've gone through a few threads here, so just wanted to add some Frog perspective on some comments:

1) Why don't we want to play in the Fort Worth Bowl instead? Because the players don't want to. They prefer to go to San Diego. Fans are somewhat divided. Obviously we will have thousands less for a game in San Diego than at home. But to many of us, a bowl game at home doesn't feel like much of a bowl game.

2) We backed out of the Mobile Bowl because we were afraid of Big Ben and Miami. False. Lots went on here. We went out 9-0 and were looking like the Fiesta Bowl was reality (we were #9). Then lost. CUSA bowl #2 was Mobile. Losing to Southern Miss left the conference championship and the Liberty Bowl to them. Mobile wanted us there 6 days early, right on top of finals. We refused to accept the bid, which we told them we would do before they invited us. The players and coaches were hoping for a trip to Hawaii instead. Then Boise became available, and we ended up in the inaugural Fort Worth Bowl (now Armed Forces Bowl) against them as two ranked teams.

3) We disrespect NIU. Not at all, at least most of us. All teams have a few moron fans with a superiority complex. We are not an exception. We share many of the same frustrations as NIU being outsider to the BCS system. We refuse to accept the mid-major tag, and find it akin to being called second class citizens. Especially when you have gone 4-0 against Big 12 teams over the 2005 / 2006 seasons (Oklahoma, Iowa State, Baylor and Tech).

4) We are unhappy to be playing NIU. Mostly true, but that isn't your fault or intended as a slight to NIU. We would prefer that both TCU and NIU play some overhyped BCS Supremicist Pig team and hand them their arse. We both have little to gain by playing each other in a bowl game.

5) We think Garrett Wolfe isn't that good. He is. We were told for a couple years that our stud running back wouldn't even start for most Big 12 teams, much of which has been repeated to you guys about Wolfe by Big 10 fans. So how's LT doing now? Many of us are going out early to catch the Chargers game on Sunday as well. Wolfe is good. So is our defense, built on speed. I'm looking forward to seeing that matchup.

6) We should be happy to just get a bowl game. I certainly understand this sentiment knowing what you guys have gone through. This makes 8 of the last 9 years in a bowl for us. If we beat Air Force this weekend, thats five 10+ win seasons in the past seven. We've done Mobile (twice), Fort Worth, Memphis, Houston (twice), and El Paso. Two times in that span, if under this year's rules, we would have made a BCS game (2000 and 2005). But we always lost that one game a year that you should not and could not under the BCS system. We are spoiled, and we want more. All the Bowl tie-ins pretty much make every season BCS or bust for us. And we've busted every year.

Congrats, and I'm sure we will be talking more in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the responses it was hard to not get a negative image of TCU fans from their message board.

However I do think NIU has potentially much more to gain from a win in this bowl. TCU is nearly breaking through the top 25, but I do admit a TCU win would not do as much for them. Shutting down Wolfe would legitimize that top 10 rush defense rating of the Frogs though.
Hopefully this will shed a little light on what you may read there. Actually, there is relatively little knashing of teeth over having to play another non-BCS team in a fairly no-win game.

We had our shot, but lost to BYU who probably is better than us this year and Utah, who obviously is not but was on that night.
Wolfe rushes for 150+ in this game. He'll be healthy and Dan will force them to not put 9 in the box. This one goes down to the wire..im pumped!

Welcome.

I agree that all teams have moron fans, but aside from violence or threatening behavior, I rather enjoy the rival nature of football. Geez, what fun would it be if all we did was exchange pleasantries and respect. I am not one of those people who is upset by trash talk on other boards. Don't worry about it, we can dish it out as well as we can take it. One of our guys is probably ordering the frog legs for tailgating as we speak.

I'll admit I don't know much about you guys just yet, but if you've gone to so many bowl games and had so many great seasons, and beat BCS teams, I'd say you're in a position we're stiving for, and making good progress. I can understand having hopes of getting through the BCS BS and shedding the "mid" major.

For a season that had so much potential, the Huskies are lucky to be going to a bowl at all after some major disapointments. With fewer mistakes we should have beaten Iowa, and most of our losses were too close for comfort. Most of us had high hopes of going 11-1 or 10-2 this year, and with our talent it should have been possible. I personally don't agree with some of the coaching decisions made both on the roster and the play calling, but overall we owe Coach Novak the world for turning the program around the way he has.

Congratulations, good luck to you, and we'll see which Huskie team shows up in 3 weeks. I'll be there, eating my frog legs, face painted, waving my flag and screaming bloody murder. Start Danny N on QB and my money's on NIU. GO HUSKIES!!! 02-13-banana 02-13-banana
He might, but I wouldn't count on it. We have not given up 100 yards to any one back (and to most teams) all year on the ground. But Wolfe is the best back we will see all year.

Against the same front 6 (we play a 4-2-5) except for one DT who graduated (and who was a good player), Adrian Peterson had 22 carries for 63 yards last year. He left that game injured late in the 3rd quarter. And the most beautiful thing is that all of the 5 remaining will still be at TCU next year.

Every game is different and last year doesn't mean squat to this game's outcome. It's just a comparison point on what our same personnel did to an elite back in another game. This is the part of the TCU-NIU matchup that I find most intruguing.

Not trying to be an a$$, but NIU fans heard this from Ohio State fans before the season started. We heard that Garrett Wolfe wouldn't get 50 yards, that he wouldn't be good in the Big 10, etc. etc. Then Garrett Wolfe proceeded to destroy the Ohio State defense single-handidly for 171 rushing and 114 receiving. Unless you think your defense is better than Ohio State's (which i would say it is not), then there is a very real possibility that Garrett Wolfe racks up yards against TCU's defense like he has against every team he has played. About 95% of the time, teams have not been able to stop Garrett Wolfe. The only times they did, was when he was hurt (i.e. the four game span with WMU, Toledo, Iowa, and Temple this year). But Wolfe is back to Wolfe form. Hopefully he will be 100% for TCU, because we could see he was in pain in his last game.

I whole-heartedly agree. But I'm still scared to death Horvath heals by then. I heard they gave him 4 weeks, and he woulda been willing to go in at EMU if he had to.

Frog, if Phil plays, stack the box, laugh at the pass, and the game is yours.

For the record. I don't hate Phil, I don't think he's a bad guy, and I hate that his family can stumble accross these conversations. I can't wait until we can cheer for the Huskies together and not fear hard feelings. But Danny is much better at the long pass, and faster on his feet. He's a more complete threat. He gives Garret a chance by taking some of the heat off, and he's capable of getting us out of a clutch with a long pass.

You aren't being an ass. See point 5 above. We once heard the same things B10 fans throw at Wolfe about a back of our own by B12 fans.

I think our defense can play with anyone else's, especially against the run. Our rushing defense is currently 3rd in the country, though objectively that is skewed by a few things:

1 - we get a ton of sacks
2 - our schedule skews more to passing than running teams (Tech, BYU, and Baylor)
3 - in our last 6 games we have had big halftime leads of 31, 19, 16, 24, 38 and 24, leading teams to abandon running for most of the 2nd half

I look forward to our defense trying to stop Wolfe and vice versa.

I agree, i also noticed your team plays a lot of passing teams. I think this will be a great match-up. Personally, i think it will be better than 70% of the bowl games played. I don't think anyone cares, at least i don't, about a bunch of 6-6 BCS teams playing each other. We all know that most of those 6-6 BCS teams got there because they included their one win over a 1-AA opponent. This is two of the best mid-major teams going at it. Both of us have great offenses. I do think TCU's defense is good. NIU's defense wasn't good at the beginning of the year but got better throughout the year and has become very good as well. NIU has finally seemed to put it all together in our last two games.

2 years ago in teh silicon valley bowl we played troy, who was ranked a top defense against the rush (#3 if I recall correctly). They had not given up 100 yards to anyone either. He tore them up. Against the B10 schools that we've played, going up against much faster and bigger lines and line backers, he tore them up. When hes healthy, hes unstoppable. Does anyone have the clip of the guy attempting to tackle Wolfe this years when Wolfe flipped him over his back?

There was one of someone tackling him? I just thought he flipped a few guys when he was blocking.

As I am sure you know LT's back-up is NIU Alum Michael Turner who is averaging 6.5 yrs/carry. He too was played down do to "lower level of competition" even though he had put up 160 against Alabama'anumer 5 rushing D.

That said, next to Ohio State, TCU is the best defense NIU will see. In fact TCU will be the second best team NIU played all season(behind OSU), great D, great O...TCU looks scarey. I do beleive NIU has a chance with a healthy Wolfe and Dan Nicholson at QB....NIU's D is very young nad is really starting to come on...WHile like you I would rather see NIU and TCU play some BCS teams...I think The Poinsetta Bowl was looking for a good match up---and what better than to have LT's TCU and their number 3 rushing D face Turner's NIU and their number 1 rusher.
Welcome to our board, frog92.

Congrats on your bowl bid. Your team is a formidable opponent, and I look forward to an exciting game.

Yes, technically a lizard and more commonly known as a horned toad (or horny toad if you prefer). Real animal, used to be abundant in Texas but the fire ant invasion is doing them in. Why TCU chose Horned Frog vs Horned Toad or Horned Lizard back in the day is lost in history. But we like it.
I too like names/mascots like Horney Froglegs which are original and unique - but not as much as Northern H U S K I E S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ancient scholars maintain that the translation was....whale's ******...well then, agree to disagree. Ha!

Anyway, my partner at work is a recent ND football grad and when he saw this matchup, he said "dude, that's probably the best non-BCS matchup, I'll definitely watch that one." (btw he gives me crap about NIU football all the time like it doesn't exist, typical ND grad, but dude has a ton of respect for GW)

So here is the best part, he might actually come to this game with me! In exchange, he won't be able to make the inevitable ND-Mich Rose Bowl so I may just inherit tix to that game as well 04-rock
Nice work Scottie P!

That's how we convert 'em - one fan at a time!
