The UCLA loss did him in. So who's going to replace him? Someone from the MAC?

Cubit? Actually a friend from AZ told me their radio is reporting that Cubit is taking a different job. Any thoughts from Broncos?

So, how badly will the MAC get raided?
Guess we'll never find out if Koetter was as good a coach as Snyder. He didn't last long enough to earn comparison, sadly. No Rose Bowl, that's for sure. And Snyder never let his players choose his QB.

I think ASU will take a guy who has taken a woeful, underfunded non-BCS program and turned it around. Look for Dick Tomey to be the next ASU coach.

All kidding aside, and I wouldn't be kidding if Tomey were a decade younger, ASU can't go back to the Boise State well. BSU's coach is unseasoned anyway. If they were to take a MAC coach, my guess would be Solich. He could get the defense strong, but his "issues" make him unattractive. Maybe see what Nevada's Chris Ault could do with the Sun Angel Foundation's millions?

Ault has left coaching 2x. He's talented, no doubt. But his heart isn't completely in it.

I think this firing is a bit too soon. I don't see that there is a plan in place. Maybe a coordinator from U$C? Even that strikes me as odd.

Snyder had some wild ups and downs, but averaged about the mean. Koetter's average was slightly better, but with a smaller standard deviation...and alas, Koetter never had a huge signature win (4-2 vs uofa isn't bad though).

Furthermore, ASU has changed appearances greatly in this time span. It is a much uglier, congested campus. It is also a geographically divided campus, with no-one really certain of the overall direction of the school. Koetter may have done a better coaching job than what appears on the surface.
I never believed in Koetter at the same time he seemed, on paper anyway, that he could really be The Guy there. I agree with you that the timing isn't wonderful without a plan in place. Not that many "sexy" candidates out there right now who would make ASU their top choice. On the other hand, they couldn't ask Koetter to wait around until someone better became available.

Confidence was low among many alums, that QB thing made him appear weak. 4-2 against UofA isn't bad unless you think about how bad the Cats have been during the last 6 years. And the admin. saw what I saw, much as you may loathe to admit it, the Desert Swarm is rising.

The good news is that if Iowa State can spend and get a decent guy, ASU should be able to find quality out there. If stealing from Pete Carroll weakens USC and strengthens the Sun Devils, I'm for it.

They better do something, quickly. This is what happens with poor planning. Frankly, this looks like another boneheaded move by an ASU AD.

Quote:With the coaching change at Arizona State, Jeff Tedford and the Cal Bears are looking hard at one of ASU's top pledges. A prospect who recently committed to Arizona State now says he's thinking hard about Cal as a new option because of the change. Meanwhile, the recruiting clock is ticking for the Sun Devils as they search for a new coach.
Mike Price to coach ASU?

That's the word.

Recant Price only in talks w/ ASU. So is McGinnes.

Quote:Needless to say, the folks at Arizona State were not amused. Especially since ASU cheerleaders are required to sign a pledge stating, "I know that I am part of a team representing ASU and will therefore always try to present myself in the best interest of the university."

I ask you, how is this not in the best interests of the university? I think it's fantastic exposure. (Rimshot!)
Cubit has had feelers from Stanford and ASU but doesn't seem to have an interest in either. Hes an east coast/midwest guy.

Stanford is a coach killer w/the acdemics and the recruiting nationwide is brutal. Its a great job when you turn 60 and are not needing a future job.

ASU great job but you have to be familiar w/California, Cubit is Stanford OC) but its a little unfamiliar territory. I bet they get a bigger name there.

I don't see Cubit leaving this year but next year may be a differant story. The great thing about him is he has been everywhere. He recruits south Florida as well as anybody in the country and has east/midwest/california ties. ( Rutgers/Mizzou/UCF/Florida Gators/Stanford/Akron).
