I am the one that has been so critical of our (KSU) program because I believe that you can turn it around quickly at any program (even KSU) when the University says it is time. I saw that happen first hand at KSU in the early 70s. We were just as bad in the 60s as we are now. Someone, (actually a group) said that is was time. The right AD was hired first. He knew the right young up and coming coaching genius. The right AD was able to get a financial commitment for the administration, but more importantly, he got financing from the business community that to this day is not known about. Within two years we win the MAC, go to a bowl, then go 9-2, and on to beat programs like Syracuse, Va. Tech, Air Force, North Carolina State, and others. That was during a time when the MAC limited grants to 75 and the Big 10 gave 125. Today we are at 85 with the rest of Div. 1A.
I am not saying that we have the wrong coach or AD. I will say that the right AD with the right Coach and the right administration, and a program can be built quicker than anyone can suspect. Anyone who comes into a program and tells you that he has a 4 to 5 year plan is blowing smoke. No real competitor will wait that long when it is not necessary.

Well...sometimes you really need that 4 or 5 year plan. NIU's "plan" took a little longer and thankfully our AD hung in there and allowed Novak to build a foundation. Of course, we had to survive that famous losing streak...OUCH!
I too am amazed at the Bulls quick turn around. I'm thinking that FL and TX are the only states that could truely pull that off. Finding that right balance of coach and AD are really critical.
Hopefully Kent can build off of the momentum of this season.
