Central Michigan kicked their a$$es at Kalamazoo. Only reason Western Michigan is in the position it is is because they were fortunate to be on the winning side of close games, whereas we have been unfortunate to be on the losing side of close games this season.

That's because we really really suck and people on this board are still in denial and think we should actually be in the MAC Championship. We're lucky we beat Temple, Buffalo, and Miami. The only games we even looked close to decent in was Ball St., and Indiana St. Hell we will be lucky if we beat Eastern Michigan by 10.

We're real bad!

We beat Temple and Buffalo just fine. Any points they scored were in garbage times against our backups. Our problem is that we can't win the close one's. We should have beat Iowa, Western Michigan, and Toledo because our defense kept us in all of those games to come back and win and our offense didn't play up to its part. I think most of the blame has to go on the coaching staff, not the players. The players do what the coaches ask them. The players we have recruited the past few years are better than the 2003 team had recruited. The talent is there but the coaching staff has not changed or adjusted at all to win the close games.

Actually, the Chips kicked the Broncos' a$$es at Mount Pleasant. They've hardly survived by winning only close games. In addition to the WMU butt-kicking, they beat Toledo by 22 at Toledo. Their average margin of victory in their 6 MAC wins is 14 pts! And they lost by only 7 to a very good Boston College team.

Without a doubt, the Chips have had an outstanding season and have dominated the MAC-West!

The WMU/UT game was at Kalamazoo. UT played Clint Cochran despite his knee injury and he turned the ball over a lot in the game. UT had 5 turnovers and 1 was returned 90 yards for a TD. UT was in the red zone 3 times in the 2nd half and didn't score. We had more yards in total offense than them and Parmele had 112 yards rushing against them. That game should have been close if not a UT victory. The UT team that played at WMU was much worse and turnover-prone than the one that beat NIU last week.

CMU is the best team in the MAC this year, hands down.
Congrats to the Chips and good luck in the Motor City Bowl. Do the MAC proud.
Kudos on the record crowd in horrbile weather conditions. Very impressive.

Central Michigan Wins MAC West
Chippewas knock off Western Michigan to win title
Nov. 10, 2006
From Central Michigan Athletics

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (http://www.cmuchippewas.com) - Central Michigan University made history on a night that threatened to be more memorable for the weather conditions.

Playing in a driving rainstorm and temperatures hovering around freezing, the Chippewas rattled off 24 unanswered points to knock off rival Western Michigan, 31-7, on Friday night. The win is CMU's fifth straight, clinches the Michigan MAC championship and punches the Chippewas' ticket to the Mid-American Conference Championship Game on Nov. 30.

True freshman Marcel Archer ran for 70 yards and three touchdowns off the bench, while Daniel Bazuin tallied eight sacks, two sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. CMU has now won five straight overall, its longest winning streak since the 1994 MAC championship team won the final six games of the regular season.

A Kelly/Shorts Stadium record crowd of 30,027 saw the Chippewas (7-3 overall, 6-0 MAC) strike first, as Dan LeFevour hooked up with Damien Linson for a 53-yard score on the third play from scrimmage. Going into a driving rain, LeFevour placed a perfectly thrown fade pass into the outstretched arms of Linson, who beat his defender down the west sideline.

Western Michigan (7-3, 5-2) answered on its next possession, however, marching 67 yards in 10 plays. A 5-yard pass from Ryan Cubit to Nic Saad and Nate Meyer's extra point tied the score just 6:08 into the game.

Rick Albreski drilled a 47-yard field goal, the second-longest of his career, late in the second quarter to give a Chippewas a 10-7 lead at the break.

The Chippewa defense dominated the second half, forcing turnovers on the Broncos' first two possessions, both of which led to touchdowns.

On the first snap of the second half, Daniel Bazuin sacked Cubit, forcing a fumble that he recovered at the WMU 44-yard line. On third-and-goal from the 2-yard line, Archer plowed across for the first of his three second half scores.

Pacino Horne returned an interception 49 yards to the Bronco 26-yard line on the ensuing possession, and three plays later Archer burst up the middle for a 24-yard score.

Archer added his third score late in the fourth, scoring on a 16-yard run with 4:45 left to put the game away. Archer carried four times for all 45 yards on the final scoring drive.

LeFevour was an efficient 17-of-27 for 163 yards in the downpour. He spread his completions around to six different receivers, with Obed C

Hopefully, their announced attendance is more accurate than the announced attendance at the NIU-Toledo game!
Speaking of attendance, I briefly turned on the UAB/UTEP game last night. It was early in the 3rd quarter and it looked like there was about 100 people there. It wasn't cold because people had on t-shirts or just long sleeved shirts, no jackets. It wasn't raining either.

Now maybe there were more people there in the 1st half, but announced attendance was 13,809 and there is no way there was that many there.

The game was played in Alabama. Temperature at kickoff was 70 degrees with 57% humidity.

C-USA talks about having better attendance than the MAC, but if they had to play home games in 35 degree weather their attendance wouldn't be much different, if not worse. Just under 14K on a clear night with the temperature near 70 degrees!!!!!
Dan Lefevour the QB at CMU is a very good friend of mine, we actually grew up playing football together, and I'm glad to see he is doing so well. I made a post earlier about how good CMU is gonna be not only this year, but for the next couple. I can see CMU whipping the floor with NIU when they play, their offense is just too good for us to even think about stopping.
LeFevour and Albreski, their placekicker from the old West Suburban Catholic. I don't think we offered either. Though we don't(didn't) need a kicker. Glad Jason Reda went to Illinois, he's been terrible for them.
