NIU Men's Soccer To Host 2006 NCAA First Round Contest Against Loyola
Quote:DeKalb, Ill.- NIU men's soccer will host the 2006 NCAA first round contest against Loyola University Chicago. The match is set to kick-off at 1 p.m. CST on Saturday (Nov. 11) at Huskie Soccer Field.
The Huskies lead the all-time series against the Ramblers 11-4-2, the teams played to a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes last season in DeKalb. This weekend's match will be the first-ever postseason contest between the programs.
"Loyola is a very good team," said head coach Steve Simmons. "Loyola won their Conference [Horizon League] on Sunday against Green Bay earning a Conference title like us and it's going to be a fantastic match-up."
Northern Illinois enters the match at 14-5-1 and won the Mid-American Conference title by shutting out Akron 1-0 last Sunday in DeKalb, to earn its first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1973. Meanwhile, the Ramblers earned an automatic bid into the 48-team field after posting consecutive tournament shutouts as well in their first-ever Horizon League title on Sunday. Loyola is 11-7-2 overall on the season.
The winner advances to the second round to play Indiana, the tournament's seventh seed, at 7 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday, November 15 in Bloomington, Ind.
