I'm wondering if other alums of MAC school have the same dilemma as I.

Being an Akron grad and living in Ohio, I traditionally have disliked Ohio State.

Why? Because of their cockiness in addition to the fact that those in Columbus think everyone in Ohio should be an Ohio State fan. This is constantly reinforced by the media with their coverage of OSU (Ohio stations, of course).

I'm wondering if the other Ohio MAC alums feel the same way.

I'm also wondering if MAC fans in other states feel the same way about the Big 10 program that is no doubt down the block from their school.

What say You?

The only mitigating factor for me to even think about rooting for Ohio State is the fact that Jim Tressel is such a class act. I've been watching him for many years at Youngstown...going back to the days when he was an assistant under former UA coach Jim Dennison. He also has a Masters from Akron, which makes the current Buckeye coach, a Zip!
just my two cents...

i am completely 100% ANTI-Ohio State. i hate everything about that "school" and yes i live in Columbus! i feel absolutely no obligation to root for that school. i even root for Miami when they play that school in ice hockey! that should tell you something! lol
WOW! 04-jawdrop

A Bobcat rooting for a Redskin?

Never thought I'd see the day.
:shhh:

it'll be our little secret! besides, it's only in an unimportant sport like hockey! hehehe 05-stirthepot
I married a Bobcat.

She introduced me to a certain saying that I never heard before.

It went something like...Muck Fiami?
ah yes, a classic phrase! 04-rock
Has a certain ring to it.

Not the same as Kuck Fent!

Acutally, I like both OU and Miami.

Beautiful campuses.

I used to have a TV job, so I worked with a lot of OU grads.

MAC rivalries are great.
yeah both of our campuses are quite picturesque.

Battle of the Bricks on 11/24!

It's like that in the whole damn state.

Maybe I got a taste of it early since I was born in Columbus, and my relatives (none of whom attended) all cheer for Zero State.

It wouldn't be so bad if Zero State wasn't such a crap university (UVa is a decent state school) nor if Cowlumbus wasn't such a hick town.

Ah, yes...that Big Ten arrogance. We're quite familiar with it. The Detroit media likes to pretend that there are only two D1A teams in Michigan. When they manage to write anything about the MAC, it is filed under "other colleges" next to Hillsdale, Hope, and other MIAA schools that are Division III. Makes a MAC fan rather upset, but the BCS azz kissers would rather suck up to the big boys and keep those perks coming than report honestly.

No wonder that the legions of fans of the big two include millions that never so much as sniffed college, and especially at scUM or the big Moo. They don't know any better, even if there is a MAC program in their backyard. They read the Detroit media.

Then there are the kids that grow up scUM fans or Moo U fans that go to MAC schools and never attend their games. 04-chairshot

Or the kids that would rather watch scUM on TV than go to their own schools' games. 03-hissyfit

It all starts with that attitude of the media in Michigan. If you are not a fan of scUM or MSU, get with the program. And it sucks.

trust me, living in central Ohio and being a staunch OU fan, i feel your pain. maybe someday eventually attitudes will begin to change. i do smile everytime i see someone walking around columbus wearing a piece of OU clothing. it's a good feeling; it just doesn't happen often enough.

a roo and a cat hummm.. verry interesting couple .wonder who wares the pants in that house orrrr i should say claws.... lmfao
Nothing wrong with over zealouos OSU fans that a cattle prod can't fix.

Just have to be real subtle about it. And yes there might be a story there about someone somewhere who saw a cop "calm" a group of rowdies and keep on walking, just tipped his hat winked and kept on going.
Maybe it was well deserved too...but maybe it's just a story.
I used to like the Illini, until I went to NIU...

I still had to root for the Illini for a couple years in basketball...cause I went to HS with Brian Cook (now with the Lakers)

Now I'm free to hate them!!!!
In the mitten state, MSU gets 10x the media coverage as the three Michigan MAC schools put together, and UM gets 10x the media coverage as MSU.

I think UM is a fine place of academia. Even their students/alumni aren't half-bad. It's their bandwagon followers who couldn't locate Ann Arbor on a map, let alone have walked into their classroom, who are the most obnoxious of the lot.

Isn't that the truth. And they are everywhere. The wagon is huge.

Not only that, but scUM refuses to play WMU anymore in hoops because we've taken 4 of the last 5 from them. Can't have that. Nope. Threatens this "image" they have of themselves that the Detroit media has helped them cultivate for so long. lmfao
Because of NIU's success the past 5 years, the Huskies get as much media coverage from Chicago region sportswriters as Illinois and Northwestern do. Of course if either Illinois or Northwestern had contended for a BIg 10 title in the last 5 years, NIU would likely be relegated to 3rd at best.

The program that really chapps my ass is notre lame. They control the college football sports media in Chicago metro as if they played their games in the city.

NIU's games are now broadcast on the #1 sports talk outlet (WSCR) which ended their contract with Illinois because Illinois though they deserved "exclusivity" (not getting their games bumped when a Chicago Blackhawks hockey game was being played at the same time as an Illini football or basketball game). Illinois's games are now broadcast on an ultra conservative political talk station that doesn't promote Illinois at all. Northwestern's games are broadcast on WGN who does little to promote Northwestern despite doing 40 plus NU games. WGN is owned by the Tribune COmpany and sucks up to the Cubs bigtime.

It will be interesting to see if things change next year with Wolfe graduating.
