Odd how Ball St. is ranked 4th in the west yet they recieved 3 1st place votes. Also... NIU ranked 3rd overall in the MAC but no tournament votes?

In a way kind of reminds me of preseason football polls this season, they had the Cardinals down in the lower half, but several sources thought BSU would be a breakthrough team this year and challenge for the MAC West (those fools sure were clueless :)

But looking at the total votes in the basketball vote only 10 votes separates number 2 NIU from number 4 BSU, nearly a 3 way second place tie.

Is it just me or have we ever gone into a basketball season with this much uncertainty as to how good NIU will be. I have no clue how to judge this team yet.
We should start off 3-0. The Winthrop and UIC games will give us a good idea of what to expect from the Huskies this season.

I don't know, but I have this feeling that we will be pleasantly surpised at what we see on the court this year. I like who we've recruited (considering we're not such a draw for recruits, anyway). I had a dream that we made it to the Big Dance and into the Final 4. I woke up before the tourney ended, so the Huskies will just have to play out my dream and show us how it ends! 04-rock

I think our team can be good, but i don't know if Winthrop and UIC will be an indicator. After all, we lost 3 starters and our backup center. I think its going to take a while for our team to find itself. Just because we lose one or both of those games does not mean our team is done for, those two games are really early in the season.
Is there any word on the health of Ben Rand?

When i talked to Ben Rand at Huskie Hoopla he said that he would be playing this season and that he would not be medical redshirted. I don't know more than that. He could play as a backup and not a starter at the beginning of the season until get gets better. He could be a starter at the beginning of the season. Or, he could not play until a month into the season. I don't know. However, with the general 9-month timeframe given to athletes with the knee injury he sustained, he should be ready by late Nov.
NIU swept (8-0) Ball State, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, and Eastern Michigan last season. We went 1-1 against Toledo (which went to the MAC Championship game and barely lost to Kent St.), our one loss against them in the regular season (and postseason) was by 1 point. We went 9-1 against our West Division opponents last season. That pretty damn dominating!

16 more days until our home exhibition game against St. Francis. Hope to see people going to that too.
