Yes.
Things could be interesting in the MAC for a few years.
Even though we have had a bad year; 15,000 still is not something NIU really has to worry about in my opinion; if forced I'm sure we could find our way into the Sunbelt or MWC or a combination of the Sunbelt and MAC schools that do meet requirements if the MAC as a whole failed to meet demands. Schools like EMU though may really have something to worry about. 5,000 ? Ouch.

Interesting is a good word to put it. So if these schools lose their I-A status, what's going to happen to the MAC? There's obviously more schools besides just Ball St. with the attendance problems. I can think of 3 or 4 besides Ball St. (EMU, Buffalo, Kent State, and in this year's case, Miami Ohio) that probably aren't averaging 15,000 a game either. The whole conference could have a huge change in the next couple of years if this would be the case.

I dont see it existing in 10 years.

CUSA and MAC could merge, or the Big East could pick off a few schools. Who knows, but I don't like the idea of NIU not being D1A, so let's keep going to games.
The schools that are really disapointing regarding attendance is Bowling Green and Miami. They've had some really strong teams and they still dont draw.

Urban Meyer pointed out one year at BG they closed out their season against another mac school. Senior day. They came into the game at 8-3, won the game ended up 9-3. Something like 5 or 6 thousand people showed up. Right then and there he knew his future was not at BG. Ended up leaving for Utah a year or two later.

I agree. However, if it does exist, it will look nothing like it does today.

As for EMU, they have no chance at ever becoming a MAC attendance powerhouse being 7 or so miles down the road from Michigan. I think they should drop to 1AA and see how it goes there(it may not work either) but it is up to them what they want to do and it is up to the MAC to decide what is in their best interest.
