whenever formal writing in an editorial uses "stupid" I am instantly turned off regardless of its merits.
Find a better description.
ineffective, porous, lame, weak , vulnerable, inconsistent - whatever.
Stupid is as stupid does - unless one is merely quoting a remark with stupid found within the text.
