The event I witnessed yesterday sorta makes one pause and ask, afterwards, what it means when folks say :

"It wasn't your time to go..." or " A guardian angel must be watching over you" .... or "It's all part of God's plan for you....."

I was exiting 294 North onto the Kennedy at approximately 2pm yesterday. Due to the endless construction at the tollbooth near River Rd, traffic was at a crawl and backed up into thru lanes for miles. My wife and I were at a stand still several minutes when ......

A motorcyle rider zipped past us on the left , lost control of his bike , careemed off the guardrail, creating debris and sparks everythere & catapulting the rider airborn several hundred feet skidding on the pavement , head over heals twice at least and bouncing like a rag doll.
The crash totaled the bike into several pieces and was strewn across several lanes.

Motorists immediately jumped from their cars and ran to aid the biker and call on cell phones for help. I turned to my wife and said that guy is dead.

Miraculously, he biker stood up immediately , gained his sense of balance , brushed off his shredded clothing and began to walk back to what whole part remained from his demolished bike hung up against the guard rail. He was wearing a helmet. It wasn't his time ....yet an innocent mom walking her small children in Pilsen gets gunned down by a stray bullet from a gangbanger.

Go figure what God's plan may mean.
Boy was my bike damaged. That really hurt. ;-)

When guys drive between cars, they are asking for trouble. As I have said over and over. To get a motorcycle license, they should make it a requirement that you are an organ donor.
Cybes is way OT.
GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GO DAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In this instance the rider was actually using the disabled nontraffic imaginary lane alongside the thru traffic lanes to get around cars backed up onto the tri-state.

I would estimate his speed to have been a "reasonable" 45-55mph - it's a long & straight ramp & "reasonable" IF the traffic wasn't all bunched so tightly just beyond an overhead bridge.
Things may have been very different had he not been wearing a helmet. I always wear mine.
I wear my helmet all the time too and I dont even have a motor bike.

YAAAAYY!

I apologize for my tasteless comment.
WAY WAY OT-

have you seen the com ed commercial of the young boy without a helmet who cannot get into playing a football game and is loaned a hard hat by ComEd crew.....

great warm and fuzzy moment for a company seeking to screw its customers over while paying phat salaries and bonuses to top execs

.
All the Com Ed fuzzy ad campaigns and public posturing will likey lead to a special session of legislature which will grant smaller increases phased in repeatedly over several years and not whacking consumers up front with one huge increase.
That is a very cheesy commercial.

:soapbox:

The government can protect consumers from Com Ed as effectively as a fox can guard chickens.

CUB (Citizens Utility Board) is nothing but a giant facade too. Am I supposed to believe that they are looking out for me?

Let's say Com Ed wants to raise my rates by 5%. They just announce a 10% increase, CUB makes lots of noise about it, so they both compromise, and settle for a 5% increase.

Open the market, and let individual consumers choose their provider.
