I agree. Main camus enrollment aroun 25,000 and total enrollment at 35,000. NE Ohio media market. Name recognition (May 4, 1970 ring any bells). And recent basketball tradition.
But if the Big East expands it could only conceivably be for football and not sure Kent brings that to the table immediately. But with Big East recruits and money it couldn't hurt to build new traditions.

Not sure if you guys aren't getting a little giddy. BE will want a team that puts 40,000 fannies in the seats, week in, and week out. Add in solid basketball, and you get Memphis.

BTW, Owen, best avatar in college sports.
oldfan is admittedly one of our more giddy posters. However, if the football team has a few quality seasons 7 or 8 wins and the basketball team stays strong, KSU would be one of the most realistic additions if you look at size and location if the Big East ever splits basketball and football. Under its current construction, no MAC team will ever be considered because there is too much money to be made in basketball for them.

well thank you..lol..i just like to 05-stirthepot conversations ,,good dialogue ,if not this would be booooorrrringgg and not worth doing... lmfao lmfao
It may be going a little overboard to think about Kent going to the Big East. Although being in the NE Ohio market would be big selling point, I just think there's to much competition with other Ohio schools that would hurt Kent from taking the next step. I just think the MAC needs to make the next big jump up, not individual schools. The conference is making a name for itself, lets see if it continues to grow.

Please.....let's end this thread.....and I'm a Kent fan.
Really. Let's join the PAC-10--better road trips!

Really. You could say this about any MAC team that can string together a few successful seasons.

But, if a team WERE to make a step up, it would be to the Big East,
not C-USA, which I would consider a latteral move, ala Marshall.

I dunno. Outside of Buffalo, none have the combination of enrollment and market that Kent does.

Fans in seats is a huge drawback for Kent though. And perennial sucktitudiness.

Yes, tell me why every MAC team is too good for the MAC.

I think you give Kent a little too much credit when it comes to enrollment.
In addition..Kent is in the Akron metro area.

Now fans in the seats is another thing. Market size...well, there are plenty of big programs in small towns...Penn State, Notre Dame, Mich State, Kentucky, VA Tech, VA on and on.

Most big programs are in small towns...and with a few exceptions..USC, Miami, programs in major markets don't draw as well because of competition from pro teams in their area.

Just my opinion.

Got my numbers on Kent enrollment from their website. Didn't say they were highest enrollment in the conference (main campus) but they are doing fine.
Second, market seems to be huge in this whole conference realignment discussion and NE Ohio doesn't have a BCS program. Big East seems to gravitate to cities.
It seems that every time a MAC team that is a perennial loser suddenly has a winning season, their fans get all hazey-eyed thinking about moving to another conference.

What does that say about the MAC?

Apparently you haven't seen mine in it's full glory yet.

I have dozens of Brazileiras for avatar usage, plus a stable of lasses with their uniforms only spray painted on...though those make for a nice screen saver or background- they aren't appropriate for this message board...now the Brazilian Girls...oh yeah!

Kent always tries to pump up their enrollment by listing all the branch campuses.
Bottom line: It's just not going to happen....

Yes, tell me why every MAC team is too good for the MAC.

Ever since the ACC stole Miami and VT to the Big East, opening up the way for Louisville and Cincinnati for the Big East........every MAC program is asking its self why not me?

With the Big East having 3 top 20 teams and being the main reason behind the elevation of Louisville and Rutgers.......coupled with the geographic proximity of every MAC school to the Big East......

The night and day difference in recruiting would have anyone from the MAC or CUSA interested.

What is happening though is slowly but surely.....all the viable 1-A programs are being sucked into BCS or near BCS conferences like the Mountain West.

C-DOA lost TCU, Louisville, South Florida, and UC

WAC lost UTEP, SMU, Rice, Tulsa

MAC lost Marshall and UCF

C-DOA has gone from a near BCS conference to essentially another MAC, same for the Western Athletic...........MAC hurt not so much......The MAC is now on par competively with other nonBCS leagues and playing for more than ever before.

Don't think so...total Kent enrollment:
"30,138 (Fall, 2005, all campuses)"

Yeah, think so.

They always count ALL of the campuses, just like you did, implying that all those students are in Kent.

You just proved my point.
