That was beyond stupid.

The decision to keep playing Horvath?
Can someone please get people off my back then?
I keep getting ridiculed for criticising Novak...

No, the decision to have chciken for lunch.

Of course Horvath.
Gotta agree with G here. Outcoached, outplayed, out everything!
No excuses --

By the way, outcoached AGAIN --- not the first time -- AGAIN!!!

Creating a post saying something is stupid really does not explain it all, moron.

Oh please, you knew exactly was i was talking about.
If you watched the game you knew exactly what he was talking about.
Novak saved the program at NIU by being a good guy and having tremendous character. He was never a good X's and O's coach. We need a change including coordinators. The kids on the field are doing their best, but they are being handcuffed. If you have "two" quarterbacks, why when one is not effective, do you not make a change. He had the perfect opportunity coming out of half time.

I'm done.

I don't agree with the chicken either. 01-lauramac2

It's okay, the world will go on. Let's just take a step back and realize that we SUCK!!!!!!!
Since WMU was flying to the ball, that happened to the misdirection? What about reverses? We did one where we faked the reverse so that Wolfe kept the ball, and of course WMU was keying on Wolfe, so what good does that do? He got tackled for a loss. We should have handed it off. Where were the screens? The play calling was too predictable AGAIN. This one is on the coaches and Phil. If you can't make the defense pay for having so many guys in the box, the game is over.

WMU does have a good defense and we all knew it would be tough to go 3-0 especially with a short week. But this was the most pathetic offense I have ever seen. And it starts and ends with the QB play.

bmx, I am with you. If god came off the cross and told me Novak was doing the right thing I would disagree with him.

I have always defended Joe Novak.
Do not mind loosing a game either.
However beeing too predictable and inflexible with regard to not changing a QB is unforgiveable.
IF Phil Horvath is 3/7 with 3 interceptions Bench him.
Obviously he is not up to par.
If Joe Novak is too inflexible or unprepared to do that, this will be a frustating season.
Horvath is a not up to par.
If we are going to loose atleast lets lose trying something differently.

Once again, allow me to state that for the tiny budget we have, we are lucky to have Joe, even when he frustatingly sticks to a loosing plan.

To improve this program we need more money to keep our assistant coaches.
Paying Joe closer to his worth would be nice, but I have too much respect for him to say that his pay will make any difference.

Why do we not play other QB's?
Are we not properly prepared to do that?

Against Ohio and Western Michigan Phil Horvath should not have been in the entire game.

My only hope is that the alumni flow of income is not reduced dramatically with this team's performance.

A winning season is all we can hope for.
Even if we win out including Iowa, it is highly unlilkely that we will be MAC West champions or go bowling.

Perhaps we should all lower our expectations.
Let's play for 7 wins and for Wolfe breaking Barry Sander's record.
The rest is gravy.

One point -- when Horvath was 3 of 7 with three interceptions, he really wasn't playing as well as those stats indicate. 04-jawdrop

It could very well be if this fiasco is not corrected. Pretty soon, the only money in the till will be the Horvaths'.
Jeez - it seems that all the problems pointed out about Joe have been said before and people are shot down and asked How Dare You!!

I guess it is easy being a Sunday Morning QB.
my question is why didn't we throw short dink and dunk type passes? with the LBs blitzing all the time, the underneath zones were wide open......
Northern is my school as I finished there in 1974, so I will always care some how they do. That said, I am not a cub fan. By that I mean I don't feel compelled to support mediocrity. In 1966 there was a game at Wrigley that had 530 fans in the stands. People back then had a little more sense than to support a loser and enable losing. If people keep giving NIU and Novak support no matter what they will get the mediocrity they have rather than the potential they could have. Tressel came from Youngstown state and won a championship at division 2 and now at Ohio State. There are probably some very good coaches at the division 2 level who would love to coach at NIU and have a good at division 1 football. In case anyone thinks divsion 2 is a joke I'll remind them on SIU beating Indiana this year and Indiana beating IOwa on saturday. I just saw the best college football team in Illinois saturday watching the redbirds beat the salukis, they are better than Illinois, Northwestern, Or NIu. Novak is as predictable and unimaginative as Bob Blackman was at Illinois who never got the best out of his players either. With the chicagoland recruiting area and NOrthern with some exposure and TV now I see no reason that NOrthern could not be very successful with Novak gone and a guy from divsion 2 taking over. I don't think a divsion 1 coach is the way to go as he probably thinks NIU would be a step down.

I could not agree more with your last two sentences. I also heard that Joe blow up when asked by a reporter if he thought about playing Nicholson in the second half. If true, it was a legitimate question and deserve a better response. Is the pressure getting to Joe????
