Quote:Garrett Wolfe Named Walter Camp Award National Offensive Player of the Week
Tailback also tabbed as one of four nominees for the Cingular All-America Player of the Week honor

Garrett Wolfe's record-setting performance at Ball State has earned him national accolades.

Oct. 1, 2006

DeKALB, Ill. - After a record-setting night Saturday at Ball State, Northern Illinois tailback Garrett Wolfe was honored by the Walter Camp Football Foundation as its National Offensive Player of the Week. In addition, Wolfe is one of four nominees for the Cingular All-America Player of the Week, the only major college football honor determined exclusively by fan balloting.

Wolfe surpassed his own NIU single-game rushing record by totaling 353 yards on 31 carries (an 11.4 average) in the Huskies' 40-28 victory at Ball State. The senior scored on runs of 48, 51 and 53 yards, on his way to establishing a new NIU career record with 50 touchdowns. Also in the game, Wolfe set a NCAA mark for the highest rushing total through the first five games of a season with 1,181 yards.

The Walter Camp Foundation, named after "The father of American football," honors an offensive and defensive player of the week as well as selecting an All-America team and national player of the year at the season's end.
