We have to start a Barry Sanders yard record countdown at games now...GW is on pace to SHATTER his record. Wow, now thats a way to get a Heismen race going
He needs 209 ypg to get it w/o MACC and bowl game.
181 ypg to get it with either MACC or bowl game
162 ypg with both MACC and bowl game.

I did the math a few min ago so a few of the numbers might be off. I know the first one is dead on though.

Very possible for GW to do it.

Get it done Garrett!!!
I think Wolfe's nickname should just be "Blur" since that's pretty much what he is when he's running the ball. 04-jawdrop

Agree.

This is an excellent idea!!!
What about comparing GW to Walter Payton?

How tall was Walter Payton?
Instead of having the countdown at the top counting down until homecoming, I think we should make it a rushing yards countdown and have it ticking down week by week to Barry Sanders record.

Why not do both?

I think GW is sweeter than (Walter Paton) himself!

I wouldn't go that far...Walter was something amazing as an athlete and a person. GW may be a great back so far...but lets see what he does in the next level. :shhh:
How many games did Barry Sanders play in his record-setting year? Anyone know?

there will never be a runner like Sweetness, GW is still in College i dont think u can compare him yet, Payton had success in the NFL and at one time was the all time leading rusher

95% sure he played in 11 games.
Barry Sanders played in 12 games in 1988.

The 1988 Oklahoma State Cowboys finished 10-2 after defeating Wyoming in the Holiday Bowl. Their only two losses that year were to Nebraska and Oklahoma. In those 12 games, OSU scored 584 points, an average of 48.7 points per game.

He played 12 but back then bowl games didn't count for season records if I remember right. (that's something they only started doing in the last few years) So his record is in 11...unless I'm wrong.
So how do you calculate the statistic in a world where we now have a 12 game season instead of 11 games?

Kind of reminds me of baseball when they went from 156 games to 162 game seasons.

Perhaps they would take his per game rushing average and compare that to Sanders.

You are correct. The change allowing those extra games came just 2 or 3 years ago.

People will definitely do this, and if Wolfe doesn't finish better, there will be plenty of naysayers. However, the offical title would belong to Wolfe.

That argument will only really take off if there's a noticeable gap between the two averages.

Right now I feel like talking about reaching 2600 is like talking about someone hitting 61 HRs after playing 50 games. There's a long ways to go. (now if GW is in the 1900-2000 neighborhood after 8 games, we're getting serious)
11 games it is.

According to ESPN, he averaged 238 yards per game in 1988, meaning the 2,600+ yards was based upon the eleven game regular season.
