what's everyone's predictions for the Pitt game? I think that we will actually see Opelt start with scooter and Collins(damn it was cool to finally see him tonight) getting alot of carries.
Summers will start if Clint is not ready, but Opelt will play. Jalen Parmele will get the bulk of the load, but expect Collins to start pushing Richard Davis for the #2 spot. Scooter will get some carries again, but not a lot.
Collins plays were after the McNeese defense was so completely worn down I don't think they tell us much except that he will have some potential for us down the road.
An in-shape Scooter will have more of an impact than Collins.
Yes. Amidst all the hysteria let's not lose sight of the fact that this was a 1AA opponent. Of course everyone looked good most of the time, the offense showed shades of yesteryear, and the QB's both looked like Gradkowski out there.

IMO what we can take from this is:

1. We now have a bonified QB controversy.

2. While we still didn't establish a running game early, Scooter and Collins may be able to help get that on track.

3. We are developing a serious deep threat at WR, but there were still WAY TOO MANY dropped balls.

I give Summers a LOT of credit. I totally expected him to have happy feet, but he hung in there and did it right. I'm kind of bummed that they burned Opelt's red shirt, but the coaches know their job and now have some decisions to make.

It was great to hear the crowd cheer when Scooter was on the field. I hope he knew that was for him and it made him feel good about himself.

Collins.....DUDE!! I hope you can do that against the 1A opponents. 04-rock

I don't know what to think about this season. QB situation, injuries, RB situation, WR's. 'D' battered but BAD. 04-bow

SEE YOU IN PITT
Opelt's redshirt was burned. You have to keep playing him now, at least some of the time. He's got to see at least some action in each game now, or it would be a waste of a redshirt.......and from what I understand they don't plan on wasting him.

He can redshirt next season when Marques Council is back unless he is #1 or #2 on the depth chart. I don't like rotating QBs. Getting him some action in each game is absurd because he would have to get acclimated to the game speed and feel at a time when everyone else has already been in the game. And then both, or all 3 QB's have excuses like I was never in long enough to get a feel for the game, or I couldn't get in a groove, or just as sson as I warmed up I got yanked out the next series.

Maybe if we have big leads, or if he is the new starter.

The WR coach said we dropped 2 balls. Don't know if that is accurate or not but that is what he said in a postgame interview.

I disagree because we need to groom Opelt to be our starter. Perhaps by game 6 or 7 he will be the starter and lone QB to play. Right now I think it is still Clint's job to lose. Everyone's judging him on two bad performances when he was playing hurt.

Marquis Council is a nice QB, but nothing great. Not sure why some on here are so high on him and think he is going to be the saviour at QB next year. Whoever establishes themself as the QB this year, will be our QB next year. My money is on Opelt.

Not sure what game Carr was watching because we dropped way more than 2 balls.

True, but it sure would be weird. Cochran has played in 3 games. I wonder whether they could get a med waiver for him, or whether it would do any good. That would make things even more interesting next year. I don't think they can play musical QB's for 2 years. At some point they're going to have to decide on a guy and stick with him for the duration. Maybe that won't happen until next year.

Well.....then....uh.....that's 2 too many. No, actually I remember the one that went right through Williams hands. Then, it seems like Hop dropped at least 2-3. And that's only what I specifically remember. We were 17-30 in passing. The QB's threw pretty well, so there had to be more than 2 dropped.

Must be something to do with his definition of a drop.

I remeber Williams' drop. Hopkins had a shot at one of Opelt's but it looked pretty far behind him so I'll fault the QB on that one. Seems like there were some others.
TRUE, it was a tired d1aa team, but what i saw with collins is a guy who has a great feel for the balance and vision needed of a rb. while parmalee and davis are great athletes neither has that feel. they tend to run into defenders instead of avoiding them. example, davis had a second half screen from summers where he went around the right side totally untouched. he had 3 blockers out front and one or two defenders between him and the end zone. however, he ran right by his blockers and was taken down by the first dfender around the 10. a nice pickup, but he was set up to go all the way.

collins first run, the hole was stacked, he cuts back then shook a guy and picks up 8 yards. his next run he does another cutback, runs through 3 defenders, then bursts past a fourth for a 30 yard td.

and i don't care what you say about scooter. he can't run a 5 flat forty but he runs the fastest 5 yard dash on the field and that's what you need to get through the hole, especially when he can lower a shoulder and explode into the first guy who tries to bring him down. he'll be better in a month, if his weight doesn't cause an injury, but he'll still be good for 5-10 yards now.

pitt got a lot more interesting to me. and regardless, we are seeing that the offensive talent will be there (wait for nick moore to hit his stride) it just needs to fall into place.

I think we have a legit shot at this one despite our unstable QB situation

If this game stays in the 20s, we could pull it out.

It's exciting to watch him run because he can change direction on a dime. And the way he makes those lateral moves, it's like the Frogger game on speed. That should be his nickname, "Frogger."

And speaking of weight not causing an injury, is that "diet" still working out for Stutz? I saw a profile shot of him on the BCSN replay and, man, I don't think he could see his feet if he was wearing snow shoes.

If Clint starts the rest of the season once healthy you basically said it yourself that he will be our QB next season.

At that point we redshirt Opelt because we have Council (and summers). I never even suggested he was our savior. Nor did I mean to suggest he would be the starter his final year. But he should be no less than # 2 on our depth chart as a senior. No reason not to have Opelt in our program with as much time to compete as possible if he is indeed as good as many think.

On WSPD yesterday they said if Clint takes one more snap in any game this season, he's ineligble for a medical redshirt. (Something with the NCAA rules... that they player must not play more than 30 percent of the season.)

Yes I did. I also said that my money is on Opelt and there are reasons for that.
