So, tonight the MAC had one of those NCAA sportsmanship commercials all the other conferences are airing.

It features Frank Solich and a black background (adorned only with the MAC Web site URL or something like that) talking about sportsmanship.

It closes with a MAC logo at the end.

That was it.

Now, I'll grant Solich is a good choice for pitchman, even if he did read the entire script through clenched teeth (which, from what I understand, is a symptom of ecstacy use, but that's neither here nor there).

But, still, couldn't they have come up with at least one sports highlight to work in. Central Michigan and Missouri State in field hockey. Something?

It wasn't very good.

I only caught the tail end, but the football-themed "MAC is great" commercial seems to have slipped, too.

i wonder if that was a part of his "community service" The whole bit seemed odd

Supposedly the Ohio Athletics Marketing Dept. wanted to "jazz up" a sportsmanship add featuring Solich and highlights from OHIO/MAC games, but was told to just let the MAC people film this thing on media day. The MAC people felt that what they had was "good enough" and they didn't want anything that special. An interesting story that makes you wonder about the people at the MAC headquarters....
