1) Toledo isn't rebuilding, it's reloading. (Many have Iowa State winning the Bix XII North.)

2) Central Michigan is no longer a patsy of the MAC. (Someone ask the CMU Coach to order Vanilla instead of French Vanilla.)

3) Miami is most likely down this year. (Losing handily to Northwestern at home? Miami is 5-1 AT Northwestern.)

4) Kent State is, well Kent State. (When does basketball season start?)

5) Buffalo is 1-0 for the first time, since, well I don't know when. (The historically worst team in the MAC beats Temple, the team that in the future will be the worst team in the MAC.)

6) Ball St/Eastern Michigan. (Home team wins. Not much to comment on.)
Miami NW was 0-0 at half. A bad punt that resulted ina TD was the start of the downfall. Miami looked GOOD on Def but the OFF outside of Ryne Robinson (Who is a STUD) looked bad. I think we figure it out next week and beat PurDont....I sure hope anyway or it will be a LONG drive home.
Emotional game for NW. Miami did play well on defense. They should be fine. NW is a good football team. Walker left that team in good hands. NW is a solid fotball team. Sutton is a stud running back. Ryne Robinson is gonna have a super star season. Nice number tonite. Another punt blocked for Miami Punt team. I guess that BGSU game still haunts them. Decent numbers for Miami QB in his first start.

Yes, please! 03-hissyfit That play on our side of the field in the first half left me speechless. The other tricky stuff I can live with, but that play!!! 01-wingedeagle
did he explain that 'call' during the half time interview?

I'd assume the sideline made an honest mistake on downs.

How I don't know, but honest mistakes happen.
Quote:did he explain that 'call' during the half time interview?

I was at the game. I did tape it, so I'll see the interview later. What I'm hearing second-hand is it was a pass-kick option. Granted, the QB should have kicked, but I still say that was the wrong call. 03-weeping However, in the coach's defense, he didn't drop five passes or fumble the ball, or throw an ill-advised desperation pass. A number of things went wrong.

At least we were competitive against a good team tonight. Still a loss, but this feels better than the loss to a bad Indiana team last season.
Ya, but we still went 0-4 against BCS teams. Damn it!!!!!!!!

Toledo and CMU did show that they will be good teams, Kent and Miami suck.

If my math is correct, the MAC EAST SCORED ZERO TOUCHDOWNS AND TWO FIELD GOALS IN REGULATION LAST NIGHT. 03-melodramatic

My God, will the East representative even be bowl eligible???????
We all know the East is a weaker conference overall, but Akron and BG are still fielding pretty good teams.

OK, that's true. At least Akron, anyway. Isn't BG supposed to be down too??

C'mon guys, upset your Big Ten foes tomorrow. We need it!!!!

Well, alright, give me Ohio then, there supposed to be good this year, right? I mean they have sold all of those tickets! There must be something going on in Athens!

Tough weekend ahead - Go Zips, Huskies and Falcons!!!

Take apart some Big Eleven Powerhouses!!

I would agree Kent sucks, but Miami played far better (on defense at least) than expected. One score for NW was a blocked punt. I think Miami kept NW tailback Sutton to under 70 yards rushing.

Miami just killed themselves with poor rushing (granted without starting tailback Brandon Murphy) and only a few penalties, but the penalties came when Miami would get a large gain. Miami is very young and will still contend for MAC East title and could possibly beat Syracuse and Cincinnati. I wouldn't look for a W against Purdue, but it will be a good game for the young guys to get more experience.
Also, I recall when Miami opened the year with a 3-21 loss at Iowa, then rolled off 13 straight baby!

Granted, that year Miami played a lot better in the 3-21 loss and at Iowa on top of that, but we'll see.

FWIW - the Big XII N doesn't appear to be very good, but ISU is a good team with a lot of speed, and they are physical on D. Despite the loss, this a great sign for UT, and a nice result for the MAC.

Has CMU been a patsy? I didn't think so.

Quote:3) Miami is most likely down this year. (Losing handily to Northwestern at home? Miami is 5-1 AT Northwestern.)

They did not lose handily, but it is not a good result, certainly. There was certainly a lot of emotion in place, but there should have been just as much from Miami for hosting a Big Ten team and honoring a school legend. I'm very disappointed that they did not do better, but I think Miami will improve. They need to find someone other than Robinson to make a few plays, though.

Quote:4) Kent State is, well Kent State. (When does basketball season start?)

Cracks forming in Phil Steele's armor?

Quote:5) Buffalo is 1-0 for the first time, since, well I don't know when. (The historically worst team in the MAC beats Temple, the team that in the future will be the worst team in the MAC.)

I still predict that Temple will not be the worst team in the MAC in the very near future, but a great win for Buffalo, needing positive momentum badly.

Two QB system - looks good in game 1, will it be a good thing all year long? Still, nice opening statement from the Cards.

99.5% in Agreement,,, IMO the MAC WEST will be a BLOOD BATH,,,

UT lost to a very good team on the road. They must be really good maybe better than last year we'll find out soon enough...

CMU as you said will not be a patsy... The defensive front was impressive. The QB Lefeveror played well. Coach Kelly had an OFF nite. Wow , WTF was up with him last nite? They shoulda ...coulda...woulda....etc...

Ball State appears to be real, they played well at the end of the year last year and got off to great start last nite.

The EAST I agree w/ you on Miami, but beleive they will be tough secoind half of season want play them early.

I'm still a fan of OHIO in the EAST and AKRON.

Kelly did say that it was a read between a pass or a punt. While I admire his chutzpah, I still say it was a boneheaded play call - deep in your territory, still a close game, you nearly give it away right there, and you do so with a pass/punt read for a QB with absolutely no game experience? With Kent Smith, that call makes a little more sense. That said, the read may have been correct - it was knocked down at the line, and that's the OL's job to take care of the DE.

CMU will need guys to catch the ball, but they showed they have some talent and heart, despite mistakes by players and coaches.
Looks like the MAC West is going to be a real dog fight (pun intended) this season. I agree that the East is the weaker half.

It could be possible that all three bowl teams could come from the MAC West.

I used to think the same thing, year after year, during Blackney's last few seasons.

Actually the MAC office told the media that this year the East and West Division winners will be assured of getting a bowl bid. The 3rd team will come from the rest and could very well be from the West this year.

What if the East champ is 5-3/5-8 assuming a loss in the CC game? Even 6-2/6-7?
