They didn't go for it on 4th and inches at midfield .... but went for it on 4th and 8 at their own 30??
I said the same on the Go Chips thread. Horrible call, and cost them bigtime.
BK cost his team a TD (two dumb throws at the 2-yard-line) and a horrible call to go for it on 4-and-8. And I'm not sure that call was intentional or an 'oops'. Then a fumble bounces into BC's hands and they score easily.

Game's pretty much over now.

Not sure he was. Absolutely boneheaded - could have killed his team with that call.
OMG what kind of dumchit formation what that at the end of the game???? Good Grief.
I'm sorry.......but add me to the "WTF" list.

Maybe he forgot he's not in D2 anymore?

IMO, there is absolutely nothing worse than a coach that thinks he's smarter than everyone else by pulling out stupid crap in important situations, and that was downright stupid beyond belief.

Honestly - if you have that in your playbook, run it against Illinois and Ron Zook - his team won't have a clue what to do, but O'Brien's teams are generally very well-schooled.
The CMU players played their hearts out and Brian Kelly and his Bush league tactics ruined it for them. The big question is if Kelly can refrain from putting the blame on his players as he has traditionally done in the past.
and all along I thought that Lee Corso is an idiot. Now I have to add one to that list. Brian Kelly showed the entire nation tonight that he is an idiot. He lost a game through a number of boneheaded decisions and play calls that his team played hard enough to win.

I have to feel for the CMu kids. Just hope that BK has the testicular fortitude to tell not only his team but the media that he blew this game. His team deserves as much.
Not to defend Kelly's crazy play-calling and substituting out a "hot" quarterback, but.....

CMU would have quit in the 4th quarter under their two prior head coaches.
Agree, Okie. I'm not ready to shoot the guy over a couple bad decisions in one game.

Also, I'm pretty sure some of his coaching and athletics dept. associates will let him know exactly where he erred. 01-lauramac2 He'll learn.

Nothing worse, eh? Does Lee Corso come to mind?
Boy, you gotta feel for those CMU players...it's not like they weren't moving the ball...they had BC on their heels and let em' off.

The announcers said it best saying that Kelly would not sleep tonight. I hope he doesn't sleep for a few nights!!

Kellys pretty arrogant and I think the ESPN audience and his ego got the best of him. Very impressed w/the players though on defense.

Lee Corso's recent stupidity didn't cost 100 kids a game.
That had to be some of the worst coaching I've ever seen in the CMU game. I feel so bad for the players and fans. Those kids played their hearts out last night and were let down by some awful play calling.

You have the guy pegged. He blamed his redshirt frosh for the pick on the trick play and the team for not playing hard enough to win. He chewed them out in the postgame for 40 minutes:

Central Michigan drove to the Eagles' 34 with under two minutes to play. The Chippewas tried a trick play, lining up with the center and quarterback at the far hash mark and the rest of the line in the middle of the field. The play went awry when redshirt freshman Dan LeFevour forced a pass into traffic near the sideline and was intercepted by Brian Toal.

"We thought we'd get a shot at them either calling a time-out or us cutting someone loose," CMU coach Brian Kelly said afterward. "Dan tried to make too much happen."

LeFevour had taken over after CMU's starting quarterback, Brian Brunner, was knocked out on the second play from scrimmage. LeFevour was 22-for-37 for 221 yards and ran for 72 yards on 14 carries. His two fourth-quarter touchdowns cut a 21-point deficit to 31-24, but by then many in the crowd of 25,418 had left the stadium.

After the game, Kelly lectured the Chippewas for close to 40 minutes. "It's no consolation to play Boston College close and not beat them," he said. "I didn't want anyone walking out of that locker room, saying, 'Boy, we played hard.' Playing hard is not good enough. If they gave you wins and losses by playing hard, then that'll be fine, but they don't."

First - you're thinking too hard if you're coupling killing BC's timeouts with scoring a tying TD. Second, you run a screwy play, which asks your green QB to make somewhat unnatural reads. Third, you, Brian Kelly, should take some of this on yourself. Your kids played hard, and you outthought yourself - you deserve blame.

WtF? Can this guy pull his head out of his @$$ for a second? CMU could have tied the game up, they didn't need to run some dumb trick play. Sure the Frosh QB made a mistake, but he's a freshman! You don't make new players with barely any playing experience run plays that are out of the ordinary. It just blows my mind that Kelly might not realize this, and has the audicity to chew out his players after playing a team that is more talented and more powerful and losing by only a TD. 04-chairshot

All I can say is "Wow". CMU needs a new coach.
