With the 2006 football season almost upon us, I thought that I would start a thread featuring former football Flashes. Since Mongoose and others may not be familiar with former NFL player Andy Harmon, I thought that I would begin with him. Please click on the link below to read about Harmon.

Mongoose, please note that Andy was actually smaller than your son coming out of high school. Although Andy was taller than your son Tim, he was only 205 compared to Tim's weight of 228. When you consider Harmon's size when he first got to Kent, it is really amazing that he was able to develop as much as he did and eventually became All-Pro for the Eagles.
Thanks, NGF. I remember Andy Harmon well. He played back when I used to go to virtually every home game. He was quite the player. There have been so many Kent State players that did at least decently in the NFL. More than you'd think based upon Kent's tyical W-L record over the decades.
Andy Harmon lived right next door to my Fraternity house. Good guy and could drink like a sailor.
Another great defensive tackle for the Flashes was Mike Zele. Mike played for Kent in the 70s and was drafted in the 5th round by the Atlanta Falcons in 1979. Mike played five years for the Falcons until an injury cut short his NFL career. Mike came to Kent from Cleveland St. Joseph High School in 1974. Kent
In tribute to former football Flashes, I thought that I would provide two links on articles written about Jack Lambert and his family. Now, I realize many posters on this board are avid Browns fans and may not like the time when he said, "Quarterbacks should wear dresses" referring to Brian Sipe who Lambert often hit so hard that he was penalized for it.

After Pete Rozelle called Lambert in for a meeting for hitting Sipe too hard, Jack reportedly told Rozelle, "Brian has a chance to go out of bounds and he decides not to. He knows I'm going to hit him. And I do. History."

As Browns fans, you probably hated Lambert for his intensity against Cleveland but should appreciate the fact that he has been a good family man and has conducted himself quite well since he has been out of football. I personally find his involvement with the Little League in the town where he lives very refreshing.
