I really like the opportunity to play Temple in Muncie....
So, how is Ball St. going to look this year? We're a little green but deep, athletic and talented. I know our guys will be out for blood after we get spanked by Florida.
Hard to say how good the Cards will be this year, but I'm definitely looking forward to this season more than I have in recent years. Barring re-re-injury of Stovall, the backcourt is very solid with Stovall, Mills and the new recruits. The frontcourt is stocked with big, unproven recruits and transfers to supplement the returning forwards (Peyton, Newell, Perryman) and Bass at center. The new guys look good on paper, but there are way too many people in uniform who have never played here before to offer any kind of opinion on where things may end up.

The optimist in me says it will be a good year... of course, the optimist in me has been beaten down over the last few years. There is a feeling of revival around the program with the new coach and all, but until they hit the court it is all speculation. A nice (but not totally outrageous) OOC schedule (KU, WKU, IU, Temple, Butler, ISU, UTC, etc.) awaits, so we should have a pretty good idea going into MAC play where we stand.

I looked at your schedule/results for last year, seemed to be something of a rebuilding year for you guys. I also noticed that your top 9 scorers are coming back. And you say you have some transfers coming in? WOW. I'm not going out on much of a limb here but you guys will be much better this year. So tell me about the transfers, thats info you usually can't find online. Where are they transfering from, position etc.?

Also, I really like that schedule. Indiana is a "name" team but are beatable... ISU, aren't they in the MVC? That will be great for RPI. That's a great schedule. Not too hard, not too easy. I hope you win every game except one.

You say that the optimist in you has been beaten down in recent years... have you had similarly promising teams that underachieved?
Hilltopper,
Ball State has been bitten by the injury bug possibly more than any other MAC team the last few years. Starting with all-conference performer Theron Smith before 2003 and finishing with Stovall, a point guard, the past two years.
Ball State has been decimated by the injury bug. However, I believe it was time for new blood (head coach). I am interested to see how Ronnie Thompson's offense will look. Fans have been used to a very stagnant offense for 6-7 years and I think RT's offense will be extremely different. (just a guess)

One big difference is that we have some size coming in. They appear to be raw, though.

I hate having to go to Assembly Hall in Bloomington. That place is a tough, tough place to play. ISU is always a big rival but they really aren't very good. Butler is the team Ball State absolutely wants to beat but sadly have lost 5 of 6 games. They have owned us.
