Full Version: Should the MAC start a bowl with the ACC?

The Big XII looks out of the picutre for the MAC with the signing of its 8th bowl game.

Many ACC fans want out of the West Coast bowls in Boise and San Francisco...........could this provide an opportunity for the MAC to hook up with the ACC in say South Carolina? The Big East, SEC, Big Ten are maxed out on bowl games and CUSA is far from deserving from another one........why not the MAC #4 vs. ACC?

Quote:$0.02: The ACC has NO BUSINESS sending any team that far out west unless it's the Rose Bowl. The SEC plays reasonably close to home in even their worst bowl. The ACC's bowl lineup is, for the most part, a relic of the 9-team league. There is the Music City Bowl -- a quality bowl addition for the ACC -- but the Emerald needs to be dropped for something closer to home... and one could make a good argument that the same should be done for the MPC Bowl.

I will give the MPC Bowl credit for being attended well given the location, and a fun place for teams to go. Before the ACC dumps the MPC Bowl, it should absolutely get rid of the Emerald Bowl. Any bowl game played in a poorly maintained and draining baseball stadium is no bowl worth playing in... that went just as well for the now defunct Seattle Bowl.

I know, no body's gonna like this idea. But Motor city bowl does great job. Have 2nd game in Detriot vs SWAC champ. SWAC does not go to playoffs. Grambling finshed 11-1 last yr.

the ncaa, for whatever reason, doesn't allow 1AA teams to play in bowl games. I remeber the Liberty Bowl trying to invite Steve Mcnair's Alocrn St (?) team one year, and that idea got squashed by the ncaa.

2 bowl games + the MACC all in Detroit seems like a bad idea.

also, for the orginal post, there won't be any bowl games in SC due to some kind of ncaa post season ban in states that have the confederate flag.
MCB draws in Detroit because its a bowl and promoted as a bowl.

The MACC is a Thursday night MAC matchup in Detroit when one of the participants will be playing a month later in the MCB.

The MACC would draw better in Cleveland and if it drew better would more likely get played on Saturday.
how bout a bowl game in philly? It can get kinda cold here, but I think that is how football should be played. If the can play one in Boise, they could play one here.

Why not. 02-13-banana

How about one in Chicago? 02-13-banana

BTW KC:

1.Play the MACC in Cleveland Brown's Stadium. 03-no
2.MAC#4 vs. ACC in Florida or South Carolina. (Never happen)
3.Kent State vs. Kansas State in Fiesta Bowl (Not in my lifetime but KSU vs KSU would be an interesting name game)
4.Eastern Michigan vs. Michigan in Rose Bowl ( 01-wingedeagle )
5.Massachusetts vs. Miami FL. in Orange Bowl (UMass in the MAC? Or are you expecting Miami Fl joining? Then it would be Miami/Miami)
6.Temple vs. Tennesse in Sugar Bowl (Only if Temple rejoins the BE. Another of your name fun UT/TU-we already have UT/TU w/Toledo)
7.Ohio vs. Oklahoma in National Championship game (What are you smoking? If Anythng I would think you would like Nebraska/Ohio but once again, you are playing the name game)

How about NIU vs UConn? In the Dog Bowl? Or the Iditarod?

No disrespect but the MAC plays D1 football. Truly ridiculous. There is the other MAC w/Delaware Valley and Widener if you want to go play in that conferance.

BTW its "nobody".
I would schedule a bowl game against the #2 Sun Belt team before I would against a Division I-AA school. The MAC is MUCH to good for that. It would be nice to see you guys lock up a bowl bid for your #4 team, all the conferences seem to be maxed out though except for the WAC. The WAC is basically the MAC of the West when it comes to lack of respect, that might not be a bad bowl affiliation.
I knew you would have correct spelling of "nobody". Been to Widener games. I'm talking to this man about possiable bowl games for MAC. Where do you get off take pot shots at me, I'm grown man who raised his family, payed all my bills & taxes, who likes to talk CFB. Who in the hell do you think your are. Because I'm Temple fan, I go to there games because I live 15 minutes away. Give me a break.

I will congratulate you, sincerely, for being a good citizen (Heaven knows Philly has its share of folks that don't pay taxes and bills.).

The MAC is a highly competitive D1 conf.. I bring up the Widener and Del Valley's MAC conferance as a local competitive league that Temple may have an interest playing in. Then MH could really get the feeling for a winner, possibly. Widener hasd brought along the best punt returner in the history of pro football in "White Shoes" Johnson and Del Val has got it going recently.

I'm not going to bust your balls on the "possible" spelling though.

In all sincerity I did take a pot shot at you for your pick of schools. That being said I wish you the best this year outside of your Mid American Conf competition. Keep it up your school needs fans w/a level head that understands what football entails.

As a Phillie fan I hope Gillick has a clue. Abreu and Lidle got let go cheap.
A new bowl at UCF is a possibility especially of Houstom tamks another year and fails to pay it's attendees.

ACC #5 or 6 is rumored. The name- the tangerine bowl is being bandied as are a few others. MAC #3-5 are considered, but so will WAC 3-5.

Look for bowl tie ins to trim their guarantee tie ins and try to get more local bowl teams so that the fans can travel.

NCAA is thinking max 6 tie in bowls (not including BCS bowls) per conference then a bid process that takes the best local teams and match ups from that point on.

This means a good OOC season by a MAC/WAC type team and a good Divisional run may put them in running for a more regional bowl.

Teams that can cut travel costs by 50 % by going to a closer bowl will pocket more money and taking another team they'd normally not play with a good record might cause excitement vs some of the same old same old.

Be nice to see the MAC and Miami own the tangerine bowl again.

Miami Vs the SEC since WWII is an amazing record. Don't think many other teams have such a road win record vs the SEC.
I would think the MAC would have an big advantage over the WAC for geographic reasons alone for a bowl in Orlando.
Grambling doesn't go to the D1AA playoffs because they play Southern every year in the Superdome and gets about $1 million for their trouble. This makes both teams inelligible for the D1AA playoffs.

Playing the MACC in an outdoor stadium is not going to do anything to help attendance believe me. Detroit is an easy enough drive for any MAC school, and has a great, comfortable facility for the fans. Match ups determine attendance. If Akron and Miami aren't briniging people to the MACC I see no reason to reward them by moving it closer.
