Hopefully we can continue our dominance over the Hawkeyes 4-0
What about a UT / Nova final, that would be something!
If we're down one in the last seconds I wonder if Stan will have point guard shoot a pull up from top of the key? Like the day Kennedy was shot (well, not EXACTLY like that) I recall where I was and everything about that moment. I was at a wedding reception and everybody thought I was crazy when I ran up and announced the win. Except my wife who knew I was crazy. Nobody seemed toknow anything about the game or care once they did. A Hawkeye raosting would be a nice way to start the season.

Lute Olsen called Ronnie Lester the greatest player he ever coached.Magic
Johnson called him his toughest opponent in the Big Ten.The Hawkeyes went to the Final Four the next year.
Sounds like we have a tough non-conference schedule. I just hope we peak similar to last season- in the MAc tourney- and finally get to the Dance.

The funny thing about that game is that I didn't even know the Rockets made it to the big dance that year. I took a nice long (23 day) vacation to Hawaii with my best friend to visit his sister. Before I left, UT had to win at Central Mich. to win or tie for the MAC championship. I'm sure someone will remember the details of that '79 season ending. Anyway, we were watching the news one night and they showed how the game ended with Joplin hitting that shot at the buzzer. Nothing else but that highlight. I sat there dumbfounded because I didn't think they had a chance of getting into the tournament. It was the strangest thing I think I ever experienced in sports... It happened about a year or two before ESPN came into existence.

Central game ended with an emphatic Dick Miller dunk at U of M basketball arena-UT won handily and I got in a fight with a drunk CMU fan who got kicked out of game. Don't remember much else-UT lost to ND on the night of my bachelor party in another close game and that was maybe the best ND team ever.

It certainly was ND's best team.It included:

Bill Laimbeer
Bill Hanzlik
Kelly Tripucka
Orlando Woolridge
Tracy Jackson
Rich Branning
Duck Williams
Bruce Flowers

What's amazing too is the coaching talent that was in that MidEast Regional:
Look at the team seedings in UT's regional and the head coaches:

#1 ND Digger Phelps
#2 MSU Jud Heathcote
#3 LSU Dale Brown
#4 Iowa Lute Olson
#5 Toledo Nick
#6 Appalachian State Bobby Cremins
#7 Detroit Smokey Gaines
#8 Tennessee Don Devoe
#9 EKU Ed Byhre
#10 Lamar Billy Tubbs

BTW:ND has the game on DVD in it's archives.
