Nothing that hasn't already been said for the most part. Very much against the move like many Miami fans.

The biggest issue is what do MAC teams want to be. If they are D1A, to get exposure, they will need to sacrifice for money and TV coverage. The Big Ten, ACC, SEC etc control Saturday TV time and will not give it up to the MAC.
I don't see the problem with this game. The football players get back on the bus at 11pm or whatever time it is then they sleep on the ride home. That's 3 1/2 hours of sleep they get, then they gain an hour's time, and then they can go back to their dorms/apt.'s and sleep another 6 or 7 hours if they have 8am classes. They could have 9-11 hours of sleep, i don't see them having classes the next day as a problem with that much sleep. This guy's story sucks! 04-chairshot
That has to be one of the most ridiculous articles I've ever read. Gerts is a moron.
I agree, it some ways its unfortunate, but this article is an overreaction.
Quote:And already, the move has been highly scrutinized.

One person inside the Northern Illinois Athletic Department, who did not want to be quoted or identified, was disturbed by the move to Sunday.

Uh oh! Someone is pissed in the AD! Maybe you should back it up a bit Nick! 01-wingedeagle

Yeah, if that part is true then this "person" inside the NIU Athletic Department needs to be removed from his job or kept on a short leash. If there is any dissent within the Athletic Department then it should be internal, these things should not be made public.

As a college football purist and traditionalist, I happen to agree wholeheartedly with Nick. Miami has 2 Saturday home games. If that happened to NIU, I would give up my season tickets, not to mention my financial support. What's next, the entire season played during the week? It's time for the MAC to stop whoring itself and its diminishing fan base to ESPN. Enough is enough.

I DO NOT have a problem attacking Miami for doing this because it's their homecoming and it leaves them with only 2 Saturday games. However, to attack US and say that we're prostituting the kids is totally irresponsible.
If this were the only home game or one of 2 home games not being played on Saturday than the article is an overreaction in terms of a Miami fan's perspective but given that they have only 2 Sat home games this year I can understand his point of view. How many fans would NIU draw if the Huskies played 3 midweek games, 1 Sunday game and 2 Sat home games. I'd say the attendance average would drop.
3 weekday games would suck, but the only problem with the Sunday game is that it is homecoming. But seriously, it is still a weekend game and Miami gets their homecoming game televised nationally on ESPN. I wonder if Miami took into account the spanking they are going to receive from the Huskies when scheduling the game. 02-13-banana

I have been a season ticket holder and financial supporter for almost 25 years. Both would end with this scenario.

Out of our 12 regular season games this year, Toledo has 5 games on days other than Saturday (incl our three Tuesday night games in November - one of which is at NIU on Nov 7). Of our 6 home games, only three are on Saturday. One is on Friday, and two are on Tuesday.

I believe last year we had six games of our eleven that were on days other than Saturday, the most of any team in the nation. I concur with Dog Fan, this kills a lot of vacation time, or even prevents many regular fans from attending because of mid-week travel, work schedules, etc.
The one thing that no one has mentioned is the obvious disadvantage the Huskies will have with this Sunday night game.
They will be in the middle of that three game road trip and will have one less day to recover and prepare for the next game the following Saturday. Monday will have to be like a Sunday and so on. That and the fact that the next game is also away means that Friday will be reserved for travel. That leaves precious time to get set for WMU which is also the third straight weekend away.
If anyone is p.o.'d about anything it should be that.

I believe Novak has been quoted saying this very thing, and saying it's just the nature of things right now. I don't take it as an attack on US. It shows someone cares about the kids and their education.

Understood, but it's NO different than a weeknight basketball game. I never hear people up in arms about that.

Apparently, you have not been reading this board for long. We have repeatedly complained about the reduction in weekend basketball games.

Those of us who do not live in the DeKalb area simply cannot - and won't - attend numerous weekday games. Look at the basketball attendance and season ticket base. Even if the team played well, many fans cannot attend weekday games. Move most of the football games to weekdays, and watch the season ticket base and attendance plummet. Guaranteed.

But all this is just dandy with the MAC. As long as we get national TV exposure, screw the fans and screw the student-athletes. Will all that TV revenue - and there's not much - make up for all the lost season ticket revenue and financial support? The MAC and its member teams really need to give this some serious thought.
By attacking Maimi University, aren't you attacking the whole MAC Conference? And isn't an attack on the MAC conference, essentially an attack on all of college football? And isn't football our country's greatest sport?

Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I am not just going to sit here while you bad-mouth the United States of America!

Great point. No one sneezes at frequent basketball games interrupting class time, but somehow playing weekday football games is the end of civilization? I agree, it's less than ideal for a lot of reasons, but unless we're looking at dropping to Division III and don't want as much national exposure as possible, we really just need to accept that these kids are getting a valuable education and part of that is managing your time.
