That's a great building. I love the brick and the balconies. I kind of wish our basketball arena looked like that.

Two questions.
1. Why is the Redhawk logo sideways?
2. Will there be curling ice to go with the curling targets?
1. I'm not sure; it's something we're all trying to figure out.

2. Yes. That's the practice rink -- a full NHL-sized pad -- and it will host intramural hockey, curling and broomball in addition to practice space for synchronized skating. I imagine it will also be available for recreational skating and public lessons.

I though thte same thing. That's a little like I envisoned for an Evans remodel before we go the boring Convo.
I meant will it have the bumpy ice for curling. Although, the comments about it's multi-use should have given me my answer.
ah, the bumpy ice. i have no idea. however, i imagine if there's time set up for just curling, i can't see why they wouldn't be able to provide the texture needed...or they could just push curling practice to 11pm after all the skating is done...voil?! instant rough ice! ;-)
Do you have a curling club, team or group?
we have a club team

I might need to get a second masters.
I hope that someday Northern will have a hockey team.
FWIW, the new arena's first games will also be during homecoming weekend -- hockey on Friday and Saturday, football against NIU on Sunday.

Of course, it may be one of the hardest tickets to get in Miami history, but the arena will probably be open for folks to walk through at other times.
Without a doubt, the finest college (or otherwise) hockey arena I've ever seen.

Well done Miami!
Very nice! Congratulations!
Wow, that looks great....

I agree with the Red Hawk comment. Should be turned 90 degreees.
Well, right now, it's facing the luxury boxes. Maybe they figured the folks who paid for the logo get first dibs on seeing it right-side up. ;-)

How much did it all cost? How long did it take to build?
~$35 million. And worth every penny.

It's been under construction for a little less than two years, I believe.
Further, the building is wired for digital broadcasting and has dedicated camera platforms.

It also has at least one (and maybe two) Daktronics video board(s) for in-game replays.

The balcony on the east side is club seating, with a dining room behind it. Tickets for those seats include a catered meal before every game.

It has 15-20 seat luxury boxes in the corners and "opera boxes" above the band seats in the north end (above the row of three seats).

On the west side, the boxes are actually offices and meeting rooms that can be converted into gameday boxes. In fact, the head coach's office is supposedly bigger than the Athletic Director's office, and is designed so that recruits can see most of the rink while sitting in the office.

You can see renderings here.
WOW!! Beautiful!!!
I know zilch about college hockey. Are you guys really that good? Or was this built to make you guys really good? How many ice hockey programs are there in the nation? Just curious to learn more.
