Eastern Illinois University has more alumni in NFL head coaching positions than any other collegiate program:

Shaun Payton, New Orleans Saints
Mike Shanahan, Denver Broncos
Brad Childress, Minnesota Vikings

ohio has the lead in college coaching but a mid sized 1AA program in downstate Illinois is where the Big Dogs come to find professional leadership.

I've actually been to EIU, and I don't find it all that interesting.

How about posting this in the Sports Bar or someplace relevant?
I pay little to no attention to the pro game these days.
College football is so much more enjoyable for me.
Except for Shanahan I never heard of any of those guys.

That is great for EIU, I guess. Since they can't play football basically anywhere in Illinois at a high level they develop guys who aspire to watch lots of tape.

In Ohio they can play and coach.
My very first game as a Rocket freshman in 1984 (I was a band geek) was at home against EIU and their QB was Sean Peyton. He was excellent and far superior than our crappy QB that season - AJ Sager, who is now a Rocket radio guy. UT won 38-17 but the Panthers were pretty darn good, they just lacked size that season. Peyton was the OC at Miami (O) a few years ago. Add him to their "craddle."

Funny thing, I was thinking the same thing about BG. I think he should have put it in the Miami coachs thread vs starting a new one but it would have been as relevent in there as the rest of the posts.

Is AJ Sager in the UT HOF for football or baseball? Or as a two way athlete?
Has anyone checked to see which MAC school has provided the most NFL coaches (any position including HC)?
How's that compare nationally?
