Basketball has been his top sport so far.So I don't think he's been an animal in the weightroom.If he has long arms a 225 lbs bench isn't so bad.
A 5'11" RB with moderate arm length moves the bar much less distance than a tall lanky individual.Much different levers.

I would not get too caught up in what a HS kid bench presses. I've seen plenty of guys put up big bench numbers only to have their azz handed to them once they put on the pads.
