Well, here it is, our 2006 preseason All-MAC first and second team selections. I know that not everyone will be in agreement with all of the picks, so have at it!

MRO 2006 Preseason All-MAC Team
Can I be the first one!!!!!

Phil Horvath? He might not even be the starter next season? Either the MAC has serious QB problems because of graduation or no talent in the MAC.

I am disappointed by some huskies missing. McCarthy, English are studs.

Horvath did lead the conference last year in Passing Efficiency, he definitely deserved at least the second team position.

Yep several MAC QB's from last year have graduated. It's great to not only have the conference leader in passing efficiency returning but also an experienced backup who has started and won important games last year. Best of both worlds!
The exclusion of McCarthy, English and Rusch is a surprise but they've got years ahead of them all were Freshmen last year plus McCarthy and Rusch were Freshmen AA"s at that!
Shouldn't Toledo's replacement for Gradkowski be a first teamer? I mean, Toledo's QB's are THAT good! lmfao

Well if you believe HuskieDan, Bruce Gradkowski was just a product of the system that has a weak arm. So any QB that plays in our system should be All-MAC if that is the case. ;-)
This list is total crap...shouldn't Toledo awesome RB's take up all 4 spots? 02-13-banana lmfao 02-13-banana

I'm actually starting to see things your way, RF. After all, it wasn't the system that let UT fans down that cold mid-November night at the Glass Bowl. ;-)

Four very good, but just less than All-MAC, running backs is better depth than just one great All-MAC player. That is all that UT fans have ever said. We never said we had the best running back in the MAC.

Why don't you go back to the BG board RWT? It seems that you hardly ever post on your own school's board.
HD took the bait!!! 03-woohoo Finally a new HD/RF debate!!!!

I'm guessing that you are not basing this statement on results. lmfao

You're right. It was a mixture of a few things. No one can blame Gradkowski for the loss. He might not have had a great game, but he didn't have a terrible game either. However, his interceptions did contribute to the 5 turnovers we had. Two fumbles by receivers and about 8 or 9 dropped passes by receivers probably hurt more than anything else. Gradkowski's 3 INT's definitely hurt took, but we all know the last INT was at the end of the game and wasn't changing the outcome that was already determined anyway. I can't blame him for pressing things late in the game when we were down and nobody was making anything happen. A leader is going to try to make something happen late in the game as a last ditch effort.

We had just 313 yards in total offense, and Gradkowski accounted for 213 yards and two touchdowns. The rest of the team accounted for 100 yards and one field goal.

In the first half, Bruce was 7 of 15 passing for 104 yards despite 4 dropped passes and a fumble by a receiver. Without the 4 drops he would have been 11 of 15.

If you think Bruce's performance is the reason Toledo lost, then you are giving our receivers way too much credit and you are giving NIU way too little credit.
Can we get a separate forum for HD and RF to fight it out?

They do have one.

Actually, I give all the credit to Tim Rose.

What does last year's running backs have to do with depth at running back in 2006? DaJuane Collins and Ray Williams didn't play for Toledo last year. Yeah, you like to rip on Mr. Williams for off the field stuff that happened way before he was at Toledo......but the fact remains that on the field he was a MR Football in the state of Ohio and a US Army High School All-American selection. DaJuane Collins had over 50 Division I-A offers, including from Minnesota, Penn State (his cousin played at PSU), Purdue, Boston College, etc.

Jalen Parmele didn't play against NIU last year because of an ankle injury. Richard Davis only played in a couple of plays before getting injured.

That is a perfect example though of why depth helps. Luckily we still had Trinity Dawson who rushed for 104 yards in the game. Could you imagine what NIU would have done if Garrett Wolfe was injured like Parmele and didn't play, and AJ Harris got injured like Davis and was only in for a couple of plays?

It reminds me of the good ole days.
HuskieDan Wrote:Actually, I give all the credit to Tim Rose.

Good. Keep thinking that way. First, you just slammed the entire NIU football team....who played a heck of a game and deserves credit for winning the game. Next, you are blaming the guy that took one of the MAC's worst defenses in 2004 and made them the #1 defense in the MAC in 2005.

Next, you are blaming a guy who's defense was one of only two defenses of all team's NIU played that held them to 7 points or less in the first half. Ball State was the other. NIU had 10 points at Michigan at halftime. You're blaming a guy who's defense had to deal with 5 turnovers by the offense, 2 of which gave NIU the ball deep in Toledo territory.

You are blaming a guy who's defense held NIU to just 338 yards in total offense (4.3 yards per play). This is a NIU team that averaged 441.1 yards per game (6.5 yards per play) for the entire season, counting the Toledo game which dropped those numbers a bit.
